Today during swimming freestyle into my second set of 500yd.  I developed a slight burning sensation (how I would discribe it sorta) were my pectoris muscle goes into my armpit..  Started to notice my stroke was changing so I stopped.

Any ideas?

Ok, all Saturday afternoon when I got home, stuck an ice bag  into my armpit area and Pec muscle....Felt ok, no real stiffness on Sunday or Monday.  Did some basic stretching of the arms and shoulders.  No pain.

Went to the pool today to just do a shake down swim.  Easy 50 yard intervals with rest in between.  Work on correct form.  After 7th lap, noticed the slight strain feeling coming on.  Did a few more easy laps and stopped.    Went for a run and putting ice on it later after shower.

Only a quarter size of an area that is sore.  Should I swim one more time this week before sucking it up on Sunday for the 1500M Olympic Tri?   Or  give it 4 days of rest?

Bizarre injury/problem.

Personally, without going to a doc I'd give it a rest,..... what are you going to gain swimming in the next 4 days?  nada.... and swimming injuries are nefarious.  Sometimes they come on slightly, and then one more session and it might start to hurt really bad.

I think it's safer to keep icing it and possibly doing very light stetching excercises (don't pull too hard or you might tear something.)

I don't think going out for one last swim will help amything. Worst case it mught make the injury worst than it is. Since I imagine you have been looking forward to the Tri for a while, I would probably take it a little easier on the swim. Compensate by pushing hard with your healty arm and push through it.

Once your day is over. Go have it checked out as soon as possible. I amno expert but it sounds like you might of tore your muscle a bit. Don't make is worse or you'll be on the sidelines lobger than you expected.

I gave it the rest, didn't swim any more after the short trial....On Sunday with wetsuit on, swam the 1500m.  Didn't feel any problem in the area.

Seems the more I train, the more little knick knack injuries/aches that show up.  Sometimes I can train through them and they dissappear.  Some need a couple days of rest.  Some need ice and rest.
