Haven't posted here yet (that I remember) but my 20 week training starts today! This will be my A race this year, and my first 70.3. I'm already nervous, but I know if I make it through my training plan I will be able to cross the finish line.

I just hope that injuries are avoided in the weeks leading up to the race, unlike my last 13.1.

Also, for those who have done this race before, where are the best overnight accommodations? I live in Indy, but on the west side so it's about an hour and a half drive to the race site, not ideal. I wouldn't mind staying in Anderson or New Castle, as the drive would only be about 30 minutes, just looking for suggestions.

Earlier in this thread, someone posted a list of Hotels in Muncie.  I stayed in the Hampton Inn in '09, but am in the Best Western this year.  Many hotels are already sold out, I'd book soon if you want to stay in Muncie.  I'm not sure about the surrounding areas however.

I'm excited too, really looking to break 6 hours this year!

I called the park where the race is being held and got a campsite. $25 (somewhere around there) and "near the starting line" according to the lady who took my reservation. She said they still had tons of openings too if you don't mind camping.

Can't beat the $25/night, Benjamin, or the close proximity to the transition. Glad you're locked in and have a place to lay your head.

Hope everyone's training is going well. Happy March 1 - only 130 more days until race day!

Hi all.  I am about to register for this race tonight.  It will be my first HIM and prep/race strategy test for IM Louisville that I am all ready registered for.

I did a sprint at Eagle Creek res. in Indy last year; beautiful area.... I hope Muncie is the similar.

Thanks all for the posts; especially the hotel info.

With just 15 weeks until the race, I imagine everyone has started putting in the hours and miles, just wanted to get a feel for how everybody's training is going.

I've got to say, this is my first HIM and the training has got me really pumped. I've shed about 10 lbs in the last 5 weeks while eating the same things. The intensity, distance, everything is really a step up from anything I've done since high school swimming days. I love it though, I'm always looking forward to the day's workout(s). I will definitely be ready at the start line in July.

Also, what races (for you Indiana people) are you using (if any) for tune up races? I'll be at Carmel, Terre Haute, and possibly the June Eagle Creek (though I might do it as a relay with my brother and wife).

Training is going quite well so far, with a steady build.

I'll be doing Carmel sprint, Pokagon oly, and Leon's oly as tune-ups and rehearsals for Muncie.

I've really been thinking about this alot lately.  I'm excited to compete at Muncie again, it was a great race when I competed in '09.  I will be curious to see if it sells out this year.  I'm really looking to break 6 hours on this course.  My three half times are; 6:08 (Muncie), 6:02 (Steelhead) & 6:05 (Deer Creek).  Will the fourth time be a charm?  It just so happens that it took me four times to break 4:30 in the Marathon, too.  Maybe there is something about that fourth time for me!  Well, I guess only time will tell.  Happy Training to all

Training is going great.  I caved and decided to go with a coach.  I figured I would take the guess workout of my prep and just do what a veteran tells me.  Its just like the army all over again for me... keep your head down, do what your told, and work hard!  This is my first HIM too.  Muncie will be my tune-up race for the Louisville IM. My second milestone this year.   Also, I was thinking of doing the eagle Creek June sprint mentioned earlier.  I did it last year and loved the venue. My wife was thinking about making it her first tri too but we will see; it was a fast and very pretty area.  will enjoy going back again.

I am following the 20 week beginner HIM plan from BT. Training is going well and I am getting stronger and faster by the week. I am still really nervous about my first HIM, but I am certainly more confident than I was in January.

Question about spectators for anyone who raced the Endurathon in the past.

My wife, Inlaws and 2 young children are coming to watch me race. However they probably wont be coming until later in the morning. Does anyone know if they will be able to get to the event after the race starts.

I thought parking was tight before when it was an independent now that's it's 70.3 and they will squeeze in a lot more racers I have no idea how they will handle parking.  It was packed in tight in 2008 when there were less then 600 in the half.  I'm not familiar with the area but they may have to park off one of the nearby county roads and walk and there's only a couple that can be used as the main drag along the reservoir is used for the bike and is closed.   There's just not many options and once I heard it was bought out by WTC my first thought parking will be BAD!

Thank you for the heads up on the parking. I am staying at the campground so it should not be a problem right?

When I reserved my camp site, the lady on the phone said I would be "close to the starting line" so I believe, other than my family coming up on the day of, campers will have no parking issues.

Last year I stayed at the campground which is 1/2 to 3/4 mile from transition. I rode my bike over on race morning and my family all brought their bikes to ride to and from on race day. That worked out well because traffic was backed up getting in and out of the race site. I made sure I had a headlamp and flashing lights on the back of my backpack so the cars could see me in the morning since it was dark. I plan on doing the same thing this year. Getting on my bike to ride back to the campground after the race was a bit tough, though.

Having a spot at the campground would work well, but as mentioned it's not right next door to the transition area.  You'll be all set parking if you just ride or walk your stuff over but it is very dark and there's no sidewalks or much of a shoulder on the road.  Not sure if it was mentioned but the campground has a lot of seasonal sites and in 2008 there appeared to be a lot of run down looking trailers there, but it's still a nice location for doing the race.  If it was a little closer to transition it would be great for logistics.

Having a flashlight and knowing how to get out to the race site is another good thing to know, if it's cloudy or rainy it's pitch black out there.  Maybe WTC will add some auxiliary lighting around the area like Steelhead to make things easier on race morning.
