Oh please.. They're just some dummies that like what they see.. Get over it.

Nice. So being followed by strangers driving in a car while you are on foot, in the dark, when your phone is dead, and nobody else is around....yeah, that's something every girl should just accept as flattery and "get over it". Do you have a daughter or a wife? If she was out running alone before sunrise and two guys followed her for blocks would you tell her to "get over it" when she came home spooked and upset? I hope not.

Yes a good point...   If a woman chooses to run in the dark, by herself, with a dead cell phone it's her right to do so.  A poor decision, but its still her choice.

How did we get from being honked at while running to being followed?

Can we get back to women yelling at me to disrobe?

I believe what the OP was getting at is that it is disturbing that due to the animals in this thing we call society she is not free to go out and try to get a workout in without waiting for daylight and properly arming herself with cell phone and handgun.

A year or so ago the people that were getting robbed while jogging around my area where men.   They usually have the fancy eletronic gadgets, wear headphones/ipods and since they are men, don't pay as much attention to their surroundings.
since doesn't matter since when someone points a gun at you.

phoenixazul - 2011-01-04 10:32 PM Seriously! WTF is with the honking at women when we're out running? Or walking for that matter? Does that ever earn you a date? Does it ever get you anything other than a one finger salute? I've never been so tempted to hurl one of my Amphipod bottles as I was this morning. IT IS 5 flipping 30 IN THE MORNING! I AM SWEATING LIKE A MULE AND WEARING A JACKET THAT LOOKS LIKE AN IRRADIATED LEMON! WHAT ABOUT THIS SAYS "Yes, I am in desperate need of your attention, please honk at me and call me "baby" when I am clearly way past my infancy?" The stories here (www.ihollaback.org) could have been written by me or by a number of my friends..it's happened in every city I've lived in, in every country I've lived in. What is it, if not straight up sexual harassment? It isn't OK. It isn't a "joke". It DEFINITELY isn't a "compliment", unless you think it is a compliment to objectify a person based on gender? It isn't harmless. It makes me feel threatened, and it has ruined one of my favorite running routes here. Ugh, dbags.

My bad, 2nd post by the OP

No, I don't think all men are dbags. Just the ones who feel it is OK to do this to women (or anyone, for that matter). I was followed for blocks this morning by two guys in a truck yelling and honking at me, while I tried to ignore them and turned up my head phones (and ran faster than I ever have before). Finally lost them by standing and refusing to move from the busiest corner I could find, then scooting across the train tracks just before the barriers dropped for the morning train.

Totally missed that one. Definitely effed up behavior and way different than a drive by beeping.

I've had girlfriends brag about getting beeped at.  But it was always the one beep and done while driving by.  I've never heard of being followed, smacked, etc.  that is completley different behaviour and should not be lumped toghether with a simple beep as driving by.

I only beep at friends and then wave hello BTW.

Here I'll enlighten you: Men are dbags. No reason to make apologies for calling us that. Some are less d-bags than others, and I think over time (marriage being a helpful component) they trend toward less d-baggery.

I honk at my wife if she's out running and I happen to drive by - but that's just because she's my wife and she's smokin hot! =)

I haven't read through this whole thread yet, but reading your first two posts reminded me of a horrible memory.

About 7-10 years ago, a friend and I were rollerblading down some suburban streets, when a truck with 3 guys drove past and honked and started catcalling. Annoying for sure, but then they slowed down and started chasing us down the road in the truck. It was a scary situation for sure. Our first thought was to get to the busiest intersection possible. We were glad we were on rollerblades because we figured if one of them got out of the truck, they probably couldn't catch us. Luckily none of them did and they took off once we got to the busy intersection.

How do things escalate like that?

there is a huge difference between annoying -- someone flying by and beep beep they are gone -- and creepy -- someone driving by, slowing down, rolling down the window, honking and hollering alongside you as you run.

your BT girls clearly have a problem with the latter.  it's not our fault, and we shouldn't have to just suck it up and deal with it.  it's scary and unnerving and keeps us from running and complete bs.  THIS is what we have a problem with, not the 50 mph fly-by beep.  and it happens to most of us more often than you probably realize.

and being married has nothing to do with your d-bagginess.  i know PLENTY of married dudes that are far bigger d-bags than single dudes.  (like the one who told me women shouldn't be supervisors/managers of men because he would never respect a woman telling him what to do.  HELLO D-BAG, you kiss your wife with that mouth?)

I think you guys are interpreting what I said to mean that ALL men are ONLY d-bags. D-baggery is just a part of what ALL men are. So to clarify: ALL men are part d-bag. How much of a role that part plays in defining each man is on an individual basis.

I have been honked, yelled at and flipped off whle running by both sexes. It does not seem to bother me as much running as it does biking though.

I once was called a fat azz while out running which stung alittle.
