Its that time of year again.    I was registered last year but the weather forecast called for sleet so I bailed.  This year I'm in for sure, my first (and last) KKC.  For those that don't know, this race entails a two mile run, eating 12 donuts, then run back to the start line.  If you haven't viewed some race reports, they are hilarious and well worth the time.

Anyone else in?

That's not the way I've heard about these.  No set amount of donuts.  More like laps with donuts after each, and you get time deducted for each one you down.

I attempted (and failed miserably) at one of these things.  I'm not sure about all of them, but mine was run 2 mi, try to eat 12 KK glazed donuts, and run back 2 mi - all in 1 hr.  If you didn't finish all 12, you didn't complete the "challenge".   It sounded a lot easier on paper than it was in reality.

I am pretty stubborn and won't give up easily on things, but trying to cram all 12 down was more than I could do.   I got about 8 down and would have thrown up if I had taken another bite (many of my fellow competitors did just that).   It was pretty disgusting actually.

Once was enough for me.

I've done two of these in the 2 mile run, 12 donuts, 2 mile run format.  I really improved my time this past race by smashing 2 donuts together prior to eating. Last year it took me over 20 minutes to eat, and I think I did it in under 12 this time.

For our local race they have a kids area with blow up toys, a one mile kids race, and they always have plenty of donuts everywhere.  Great way to raise money for UCP.

this truly sounds like the most disgusting thing I have ever heard of.  I am nauseated just thinking about it

I bet my sons would love it

I'm guessing these are mainly splattered on the road on the way to the finish?

Hmm, last time I had access to KKs I think I downed at least four in the course of an hour.  I probably would have eaten more of them faster, but I didn't want to hog 'em.  Even though they kinda were a bribe for me....

I'm not much of a runner yet. So I'd have to say eating a dozen of those doesn't sound any harder than running 4 miles.

Nom nom nom.

I'd eat one of those KK burgers if I came across them too.  I'm into the exercising, but haven't gotten anti-junkfood bus yet.

Half chewed/digested, too...right?

I've read race reports about these things...you seriously couldn't pay me enough money to consider doing one.  A single Krispy Kreme makes me gag - a whole dozen? While running?  Ick.

A friend of mine that's done these kinds of races told me that part of the fun of the race is to run and not step in someone else's vomit...

bleck...

I've heard of people vomitting, but never saw it (luckily).  I would say over half of the people run eat two donuts and finish the run.  They don't complete the challenge, but it is still fun.

The one I'm doing is the original race, at NC State.  This year there are 7,500 registered.  The race director estimates that 25% will throw up.  So...an estimated ~2,000 piles of puke.  Luckily I'm a fast runner, so hopefully I'll beat many of the puke piles.  And I'll probably make (at least) one of my own.

You can register in two divisions.  Challenger - meaning you must eat all 12 donuts.  Or casual - meaning you run, eat what you can, and run back.  I registered as challenger, of course.  If you're gonna do it....do it.

I'll be sure to post a race report and hopefully some good pictures too.

We have two weekly criterium series in Vancouver. They run from May through August. The final race of each is always a fun one. For the Thursday night series it's a donut race. There's a few variations, but it usually something like after every lap, you have to eat a donut. There's lots of sugar on your handlebars when you are done.

Sounds like fun.

OK so I didn't post before but since people seem "into" this..........  The OP is doing the ORIGINAL race---it's the REAL deal.  It started as group of college students and quickly grew---it's 2 miles eat a dozen and run the 2 miles back...in ONE hour...WITHOUT puking!  There was (probably still is on youtube but I'm too lazy) video of ESPN covering the race---reporter is a decent runner (as in marathons...) and starts in a suit with a microphone and is a mess at the end and didn't even make the 1 hour cut-off---finished in just over hour but did finish the KK's and didn't puke (think he might have wanted to!!!

I think just finishing the 4 miles would be a feat at this time for me. KK donuts are grose (except the pumpkin ones) so finishing more than one donut would be a challange for me too.

good luck to all those who try!

Steve-

I'm in for tomorrow too and I think it will be a blast.  This will be my first so I don't have a proven strategy, but I am tapering today and trying to keep the diet clean.

Good luck!

Nice!  I'll be in the 'Where's Waldo' costume.  I'm drinking a ton of water today in an attempt to stretch my stomach a bit.  Haha, this is such a stupid but awesome event.  My first time also.

The race (the original and by far the biggest) is in Raleigh, NC. Sold out for this year, however.

I wanted to give this a try but it seems to always fall on the same weekend as my son's pine wood derby.  I live in Carolina Beach so it's just not going to work out for me.
