Just testing the waters ... there have been a few threads regarding aging, the older athlete, etc. I'd say 'older' generally starts 35 or somewhere north of it ... (just for purely physiological reasons) ... of course, that would be most of the people on here, ha! but still.

Yes? No? Maybe so?

I think statistically, most triathletes are 35+

So it may not be a suitable division.

So I say no.

Nope. As Chris mentioned in the COJ thread, too many forums already. No need to further segment the community.

I don't know that there are enough issues to fill another forum, or that those issues aren't something that some one who may be creeping up on that age bracket shouldn't know anyway... (how's that for a run-on?)

Not opposed to it. Also not sure how often I'd go into that area (even though I'm "somewhere north of it").

Agree.  As far as I'm concerned you could have two:  "Triathlons" & "Everything Else".

People are going to talk about what they want to anyway.  I saw the Boston Marathon thread earlier and thought I had accidentally logged onto the Runnersworld.com forums.

I'd like it.  Unless we are trying to conserve electrons by limiting the number of different forums.  If people don't want to participate, you can't stop 'em.  I'm easy.  I ain't cheap, but I am easy.

I have learned that as I've gotten older, my recovery time has dropped.  I've had to adjust my training accordingly.  I also find the cumulative effect of 10,000+ miles of running on my knees is starting to show.

OK, that's about the extent of my "masters forum" discussion ideas.  So maybe there is no sufficient topic material to justify a new forum.

OTOH, if there are beginner masters, they might feel more comfortable posting in a forum specifically for beginner seniors.....over the hill bucket-listers who woke on their 50th BD and decided to start tring..........;-)

I would say the cutoff needs to be much much higher than 35 if you did want to bother doing it.

Why segment it at an age when people are basically at peak performance?  If you made it 45 or just didn't define it and called it something that eluded to it than I could say ok.  Otherwise I'm not sure what you are looking to get out of it....

I wouldn't be for it and the traffic wouldn't be as high...

I don't see a need.  The main Triathlon forum gets dead at times as it is.  I just don't think there would be enough activity in the new forum to keep it active.

Maybe but unless the age was 45 or 50 doesn't make much sense. 35-45 is probably the bulk of folks here on BT.

I do think they are some slight differences for training and recovering for older folks.

Same here. Just like the old saying goes, you're only as old as the woman you feel.

X2 - I think there are some issues that affect us old farts older athletes differently, and it might be worthwhile to have a separate forum to discuss those issues - I agree that 35 is probably too low though, maybe 45 or 50 as Kathy suggests.

That's a given.  The real question is can you poop in your diaper on the bike?  I guess that depends on how many tamales you at

Jeez, 35 would qualify for "older"???  Now I really depressed - or maybe excited, since I can't even remember 35 and I am doing this tri thing!

Back in my USCF Cat IV racing days I was very excited to finally race masters 35+ thinking I might have a real chance......I was repeatedly handed my a&& by those "old guys".
I learned something about experience

Oh, you darn kids!

Endurance Nation has a "Boomers and Beyond: 50+ and Crushing It" section that started last January (2010) and it currently has a total of 22 threads.  Granted BT is much bigger than Endurance Nation but 22 threads isn't much activity.

How about a forum for us pre teens?

I have 1 year and 12 days until I turn 10.  Talk about throwing off the triathlete demographic!
