Sounds like it is pretty ambitious to get that many people in the water in a little over an hour with a 20 minute break included. Sounds like organized chaos! |

Great words, thanks!!! I'm feeling pretty good about it all today. I'm so excited because it's been such a longtime doing anything for myself physically, and this is just a HUGE step for me. I'm ready to have a GREAT time on Sunday. Best of luck to you and thanks for the supportive words... |

Yeah I don't see how those numbers add up personally, and if by some chance it does happen, the cycling leg is going to be really crowded, as will both transition areas. We'll see what happens, I can't wait! |

How is everyone getting back to the trans area after finishing the race, I was thinking of taking a cab but realized i'll have two heavy bags of gear along with my bike and still have to get back to my car which will be parked somewhere near the hotel in midtown. i believe they have petty cabs that will take you from the finish to the transition area. but it's a pretty easy walk there. It is a bit of a challenge to get your stuff back from transition to hotel/home. a few yrs ago my wife took my bags in a cab and i rode home, not sure if this is a possibility for you. I'm not racing this year, but from past experience, I can tell you that unless you're completely thrashed after the race, waiting in the long line for the pedicabs, followed by a white-knuckle ride through traffic back to the transition area isn't worth it. Just walk back across 72nd street. Getting all your stuff home is kind if a PIA. Try to pack lighter than normal, if possible, and bring your stuff in a bag that's easy to carry while wheeling a bike, unless you have help. You may want to leave behind your floor pump. There will be plenty provided by the RD, so you won't need to bring one. For spectators, my wife has always stationed herself near the park entrance on 72nd, and then, after I pass her at the 1-mile mark, she makes her way into the park and over to the finish area. The walk probably takes 15 minutes and, at my MOP pace, I show up about 30 minutes after she finds a spot by the railing of the finish chute. There's really no good way to watch the swim or bike, unfortunately. Wish I was racing this year. I really enjoy the NYC tri, in spite of all the headaches that come from staging an event this big in NYC. Good luck everybody. |

Veteran 107 Virginia | Subject: RE: Nautica New York City Triathlon : Official Thread Additionally if the pavement is wet be careful on the bike. Road markings are slippery when wet! On the plus side it is really nice and cooling to run in the rain! And just remember that everybody has to deal with the same conditions. Best of luck to everybody this year. My wife and I had to defer our entry due to some family commitments. It will be our first time missing this race in 4 years. I will be interested in hearing the reports of the TT swim start from those that have done it in the past. Have fun at the Underwear Run tonight too! (even if you are not running in it... it is worth a trip over to Central Park to witness the craziness!!) jktow - 2011-08-05 7:48 AM Well just heard the Weather report prepare for heavy rain throughout the day starting at 8:00 Am... Jim Hopefully not! Here's the report from NOAA: Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 87. East wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
I would be so happy with a 1/10th to 1/4 inches of rain!!! |

Extreme Veteran 368 | Subject: RE: Nautica New York City Triathlon : Official Thread actually, west side highway is in pretty good shape. There are a few rough patches, but overall, it's in good shape. I think the worst of it will be the section immediately north of the HHB, as well as the section from 96th or so to the gwb approach (that section just has the killer expansion joints in the raised roadway). |

Interesting, I figured pot hole city on the WSH. So I hear there is one climb that's killer and then mostly rolling hills. Where's the big climb? |

I would be so happy with a 1/10th to 1/4 inches of rain!!! I'm with you, even I can handle .1-.25 inches of rain!!! On a side note, all the weather "watching" while important, is still a bit of guesswork. I wouldn't worry about the weather reports until the night before. Wouldn't be the first time rain was predicted and the sun came out. Wouldn't that be nice!!! |

The water was rougher than usual but it was still a great event. I went into the event with a goal of a sub 3:00 time, finished in 2:56:22. No excuses, but I need to figure out my nutrition/hydration strategy. Lived off the course, and by mile 3 of the run, stomach was doing somersaults. Shouldn't be complaining, as apparently a 64M died of cardiac arrest, 40F was taken to hospital in critical, woman in front of me in transition festival was talking about seeing them working on her, sounded like she's in really rough shape. NY1 listed her as being in critical. |

I want to do one with a good open water swim so I can finish one without the help of that wonderful Hudson River current. Any suggestions? |

Don't let the terrorists dictate your fear and where you will not be on 9/11/11. If you do that, the terrorists have won. This is one man's opinion. |

Member 65 Monroe, NY | Subject: RE: Nautica New York City Triathlon : Official Thread I work in the city and have no fear of NYC. Having been lucky enough to be running late on 9/11 so the path stopped 20 min before I got on it, I don't feel the need to push my luck or stress my family on this special anniversary. I will always love NYC and terrorist can never change how special the city is. So with that said I would prefer to reflect on this day in other ways then competing but I can't blame others for wanting to compete. It is a day for everyone to reflect and heal in their own way. |
