Subject: Hip replacement
I just had minimun evasive hip replacement surgery, I am 44 and can not see myself giving up triathlons. I know they say running is not recommended, and I am willing to scale down runs. anyone out there who has had hip relacement surgery and still compete in Olympic distance tris? I need feed back!

That sounds more like a question for your doctor and physical therapist than anyone here.

Yea I know the question was actually tring to find out if anyone has still been successful in doing Olympic distance tri's. As far as the medical field goes they don't recommend running since it reduces life span of implant, but they don't totally say no. Thanks for your reply!

I have a friend who is still running on dual hip implants. He only runs, but is a mid-distance kind of guy: 8k to half marathons (occasional full in there). He's slower than he used to be...but he's also in his 70s, so that could be b/c of age, too.

I'm sure if you look long enough you'll find someone with an artificial hip who has done an Oly if not an IM.  You can also find people who are in wheelchairs.  Ancedotal stories shouldn't be the basis for making a medical decision in your individual  situation.

You need to consult with your doctor, understand the risks, and then make your own decision.

I'm not saying you should or shouldn't, just suggesting you are make an informed decision.
