Tempe Town Lake and Open Water Swimming Training

There's probably some liability involved, too. Events likely need insurance along with volunteers in the water.

I'm thinking about the S&D this weekend too. What's the format? How early do I have to be there? It's a hike from Sedona and they start a little early. I can use as much OWS practice as possible.

Start time is 7:30am.  People can do either 1000 meter or 2000 meter swim, then both are followed with a 4 mile run.

We were talking about the TTL temps this past weekend at the RedRock swim clinic.  Someone said they heard it was forecasted to be mid to high 60's.  I am planning on low to mid 60's based on the temp at Bartlett this last weekend, and the rise in general temperatures the next couple weeks.

As for Splash n Dash this weekend, 1000 or 2000 M swim (your choice on event day, I think ) with a 4 mile run after each.  Parking is limited at the marina, and they have not said anything about transition setup as of yet.  Check in starts at 6am, so I plan to get there about 5:30 to ensure a space at the marina (we are cycling the MaRquee loop once after S&D for a brick).

Thanks, good info! I was hoping to leave here at around 5 AM... Looking at the 2K swim. How many are biking afterward? Sounds like it could be a good ride. I haven't ridden any of the routes down there and will be competing in the Marquee. Is everyone bringing their road bikes or their funny ones?

The marina, and the event, are on the north side of TTL.  DO NOT go to Tempe Beach park on the south side.  If you Google map the lake, you will see where the road comes into the marina, under the 202.

So far I think there are three (3) of us planning to ride a single loop up to the AZ Canal and back, which will be about 25-28 miles.  Nothing too crazy or overboard a week before the Half IM.

from the marina, up beeline, 20 miles in fountain hills (probably up rio verde), and back.

Here's a quick snapshot of where the SnD will probably be held at the marina.  Somebody please correct me if this has changed.  You'll want to enter on the north side of the 202.
