I'll groove with ya!

On the Food Channel tonight, they had a show about "Beach Eats".  I wasn't too interested in the saltwater taffy, or the hotdogs.  But when they showed the surfers' favorite, fish tacos, I nearly drooled on the TV!  I love California.

I might be biased but there is no better state than Cali. Those east coasters can have their $6.00 Chipotle burritos filled with rice, give me a Carne Asada burrito or fish taco from a Roberto's, Hilberto's, Aleberto's or any other real Mexican food place

I have to agree with you Madcow. Just because of all the rants here I went and tried Chipotles about 3 weeks ago. Sorry but in my humble opinion, Los Panchos carne asada burrito wins hands down. Plus its huge and costs $3.25.  My wife and I ate at Chipotles and it cost us over $17.00. Plus Rubios fish tacos are winners also.  Being originally from Texas, Cali would be perfect if it had decent bbq.

Yeah, good BBQ is hard to come by.  I was spoiled by the years I lived in Kansas City.

The best I've found is in Oakland, on San Pablo Blvd.

I'm a tamale freak. I love the Mexican ladies who go door to door around here selling them.
And ceviche and chicken mole...and a nice cold beer.

Man, I'm so hungry.

I've never had really good bbq, sad to say. Never been to the south! One of these days I hope.

The marine layer burned off today! This has been the worst summer ever - just a few sunny days. Seems like a good reason to get some Tacos de Mexico eats and go watch the sunset!

I was going to say! Oakland (my neighboring city) has amazing BBQ, and Soul Food in general! Plus, I work in this area called Fruitvale which is, demographically-wise, high in its Latino population... and wandering Taco & Tamale stands! Ummm...

Ahhh. California!

BTW, to be fair to the Chipotle crowd... it's great when you need to watch the calories to be able to get there burrito bowls. But other than that... Give me Juan's down the street that makes those Mexican style chips fresh. You know the ones I mean. They are super thick and flaky--melt in your mouth, salivation factory style chips. Sooo goood!

If you don't know what I'm talking about, come on by for a visit. I'll be happy to take you on a personal tour!

Are these just a west coast thing? I assumed they were everywhere? You'll just have to give me a sarcasm alert if that's the deal. I'm pretty dense!

Little Cearsar's is originally from the Detroit-area.  I remember way back in the day when we'd go got two very large pizzas and they came on the same long piece of cardboard.

Domino's is also from the Detroit-area, but IMO they make nasty pizza.

But lately I've been trying hard to give my business to local shops.  And, at least in the pizza-world, it's paid off.  I'll drive by 2-3 Round Table restaurants to go to Pizza Gourmet for their wonderful Acapulco pizza: fresh tomatillo sauce, seasoned chicken, caramelized onions, mozzarella, fontina, cilantro, garlic

Damn!  I'm hungry!

I hear ya!  We were out at the LBS buying my BF a new commuter bike to replace the one that was stolen a while back... right next door to Lepe's.  Guess who had a carnitas burrito for lunch?  And the chips were fantastic!  Light, crunchy, flakey!  And a coke in the bottle.  Mmmmmmm....

Yep everyone's welcome for a bbq down the beach as soon as it warms up just a little down here.   I'll chuck on some crayfish and prawns and abalone and fish.  and of course some snaggers (sausages) for anyone that wants.   Add in an esky full of beer and a great sunset sounds like a perfect spring night to me!  Everyone's invited.

To tell the truth, although I talk a mean game about drinking only Sonoma County wines, I like most anything I get from Australia.  Had some Five Families Shiraz the other night that was very yummy!  And only $4.99 at Trader Joe's.

I admit to typically being a 2-buck-Chuck girl myself, but I had a very fine Wild Horse Old Vine Cuvee tonight...just unbelievable.

I'll look for the Five Families - love Shiraz
