Steve - nice graph, thanks for sharing it.

In your 2009 campaign, how did you feel in those middle miles where you were holding a constant pace (rather than your fluctuations in 2010)? I'm shooting for sub 1:08 with an ultimate goal of 1:05. I really like to try to stay even on the pacing, so how did that work for you? When you got over mile 7 was it a relief to hit the flat?

Thanks!

I'm suprised that valley right before mile 9 isn't bigger, if that's the one right after Dale.  It always feels like you go down and up a couple, 13 14 hundred feet.

I felt a LOT better in 2009, but I guess that's what running 3 minutes slower will do to a person! In 2009 I maybe had too much still "in the tank" at the end. Then, I could go hard. Last year, I was holding on for dear life at mile 8, but I hit my sub-60 goal, so I was NOT complaining!

On Sunday, I HOPE to go out somewhere between the 2 years on that graph - I'm not in as good as shape this year as last year, so I can't go out as fast as last year or I'll die. So this year, I'm hoping that I can keep upping the pace after mile 7 and finish hard without blowing up!

If you want to try to stay "even" on the pacing, just be aware that the first few miles can be a bit fast, and that some of the middle miles (6-7ish) can be a little slow - work that into your plan a bit. Otherwise, you might hit mile 6 or 7 with slower times than you had hoped and feel bad about it. But those ARE slow miles.

GOOD LUCK! Look for me at the start and say hi!

Nice to meet you as well.  Sorry it took me a minute to place you, you look a little like a guy I play hockey against, so I was trying to remember the names of the teams I play on.

Hope you three are getting enough sleep this weekend.  Good luck to you and your wife tomorrow, and tell her 16 weeks is an insperation.

So. Little. Sleep. Last. Night. Our little guy was up 6 times - twice for over an hour! At least we have a lot of family coming up for the race so we'll be able to pass him off!

See you out there tomorrow!

It goes on the front of your helmet.

(Nah. I have a blue one with my number. My guess is it goes on your drop bag.)

I am packing my clothes to wear, stuff in my "sweat bag" and then a third bag for clothes in car along with lawn chairs for watching the marathon.   I also had to try some stuff on to make sure I could work the number, belt (with gus), etc.   It's turning out WAY more complicated than it should be.  For some reason the logistics of an event this like are throwing me.  I like to park in a parking lot and do everything from there

Good luck everyone!  Make sure to stomp extra-hard going up Summit so the hill isn't as steep for the marathoners!

Well, how'd it go for everyone?  I'm happy to report I beat my stretch goal time by almost 3 minutes and had a great race.  Unfortunately my wife was on track with the 3:40 pace group of the full when she stopped to use the bathroom at mile 17 and her legs seized up and she couldn't run anymore.  She called me, I came and met her and walked/jogged with her to the finish line.

Oh man - that's terrible about your wife!  What a way to go after a good start.  Well, you sure got some miles in today.

I am glad your race went well.

My day was good.   I missed beating my PR by less than a minute, but I also ran 10.11 miles, so I consider it a "win" for me.  I think the race was very well managed and the volunteers were super.  I was really impressed.   I don't feel a mega desire to run it every year, it was fun this once.  My biggest regret was not really paying attention to the finish and the surroundings and everything.  I was SO focused on squeezing out the last possible second I barely looked up!  My legs are very sore now, so I know I put everything into it.

Great Race! I wasn't sure where my time would end up after some lousy tempo runs the last 2 weeks, but I beat my "great race" time by almost 2 minutes. Felt like I spent the entire first three miles dodging traffic. Also had a lot left in the tank, but my IT band got angry at about 9.25 miles, so I couldn't kick at the finish the way I had hoped. Somehow the GPS on my phone (I use cyclemeter) said I ran 10.41 miles. Either I ran it like a stumbling drunk man, or my GPS was way off.  You certainly couldn't have asked for a better day for running conditions.

As an aside, most people would consider it a bad sign if one of the medics started running with you, but my brother-in-law was one of the docs at mile 24/8. Definitely gave me some pep!

My garmin read 10.1 miles as well.  And I hear you about forgetting to enjoy the scenary.  I felt like I started running, ditched my long sleeve shirt, looked down at my watch and I was already at mile 2.5.  Then it seems like I looked again at my watch and was almost at the 5 mile mark.  Essentially the miles just kept flying by and I feel like I missed out on some of the experience!  Next think I knew I was at mile 7.5 and I kicked it into high gear and passed about a million people on the way to the finish.
