I have a TT this weekend as well (18 mi).  One thing I just learned is that for most cycling events (USAC) your jersey/skinsuit must have sleeves.  So no trisuits. There is a lot of other good advice in this thread.

I am recovering from the flu that I picked up from my kids earlier this week so not sure how I will do.  Could throw my pacing off a bit.  I was able to ride the course on Tue though so at least I know what to expect.

Good Luck!

This rule was changed this year. Per the USAC rule book:

1N5. Sleeveless jerseys may now be worn in individual TT events in domestic races.

Thanks for the update.  This is good to know.

most important is to keep effort steady.  warm up.  those are the 2 key factors.

In addition to a good warmup (I would say at least an hour including several race efforts) use your powermeter to limit effort to ~FTP for the first five minutes (when it will feel too easy) and then settle into just above FTP( ~5W) for the rest. Inside the last km, whatever you have left.

Like the others: warm up! And, just like any other race make sure you know how long itll take you to get set up to start, you don't want to to start all rattled.

Warm up! and you're not really going to make up any time on a downhill so don't spin out. Since your tt will be over rather quick, you should be going just shy of puke speed.
