 4 |  Subject: Extended time limit iron distance eventsI understand all Ironman events have a firm 17 hour cutoff, but I was wondering if there are any iron distance events with longer time limits? Please let me know if I should have posted this elsewhere, I took my best shot. Thanks |

Elite 3498 Laguna Beach | Subject: RE: Extended time limit iron distance events The 17 hour limit is largely, or at least traditionally, imposed due to race logistics: Keeping volunteers on the course, law enforcement, timing, etc. If your inquiry is a serious and sincere one, and I take all forum inquiries at face value, you may be best served to do a kind of home-grown race. If you prepare for and do this you may find you are getting close to the 17 hour time limit, in which case you could consider one of those events. If you were a special needs athlete, i.e., wheelchair, prosthetic, etc. this may also be a good way to determine if attempting a 17 hour cut off event is for you. A friend and client of mine, Judy Molnar, author of the book You Don't have to be Thin to Win, was featured in the Ironman telecast one year when she attempted to beat the 17 hour cut-off at Ironman and didn't make it. Judy returned in a following year and put together a good race and finished within the time limit. Good luck in acheiveing your goal. Judy's book:

Saturday Swim 2.4 miles - Start at sun up with time cutoff of sundown Sunday Bike 112 miles - Start at sun up with the time cutoff of midnight Monday Run/walk 26.2 miles - Start at sun up with the time limit of midnight By making it a long weekend it will help out the local economy by having participants stay a couple extra days. With all the free time between each segment, there is good chance you will spend even more money that will help . To avoid extra cost and the need for volunteers: It would require that you be totally self supported (including the swim) While your at it, make the timing an honor system. Just E-mail in your time for each event. The race director will E-Mail you back the race results. The winners will get their medal in 4-6 weeks, if they pay for the shipping. You could call it the "rusty" ironman because It takes so long to finish the iron will be rusted completely |

Master 2404 Redlands, CA | Subject: RE: Extended time limit iron distance events Alot of Gyms have a program where you can log in your swims over the month and if you do a total of 2.4 miles of swimming, 26.2 miles on the treadmill, and 112 miles on the spinner, they'll call you an Ironman. Its alot easy than the standard way. |
