Total Time = 6h 32m 56s
Overall Rank = 266/466
Age Group = F 35-39
Age Group Rank = 15/29
Pre-race routine:

Ate a bowl of Oatmeal for breakfast + Coffee
Got to T2 to set up at 6:00 AM, 6:45 bus to Start/T1
Plenty of time to set up T1 and relax
Ate a banana 30 min prior to start.
1 GU 15 min prior to start
Event warmup:

10 min prior to start got in water, and acclimated face, briefly before all swimmers called out of water.
in 3rd wave. we had 4 min in water prior to our start. Plenty of time to acclimate again.
Swim
  • 44m 58s
  • 1931 meters
  • 02m 20s / 100 meters
Comments:

First 200 meters went better than expected. Sighting to large tree in distance. Field was to my left. I drifted to the right at each buoy.

What would you do differently?:

Better navigation. Account for wind/current.
Keep swimming through sighting, don't break stroke to look. I got better at this by the end.
Transition 1
  • 04m
Comments:

Jog out of water to bike. Decided to use arm warmers for bike. This took an extra 30 seconds to get on. Great idea. I would have been very cold without them.
Had to place all items, including wetsuit in marked bag.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 3h 22m 5s
  • 56.3 miles
  • 16.72 mile/hr
Comments:

The initial climbs were not as difficult as I thought based on riding computrainer course. Same with steep climbs. They were hard, but I kept a steady pace. I pedaled downhills, and passed many people here.
What would you do differently?:

Back off a bit more at the end. I felt fine until I hit the run.
Transition 2
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

Long run up to racks. I took shoes off and carried them as I ran in socks.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 2h 18m 51s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

This was the hardest 13 miles I have ever run. My brain was saying stop at mile 2. I started out with a side ache too. I took electrolytes at each aid station (apx 1 mile) this seemed to help cramping in left quad. Steady pace, body began to recover at mile 8.
What would you do differently?:

???
Ease up on the end of the bike? Not quite sure.
Post race
Warm down:

Had to walk 1 mile to go collect gear from T2. Nice walk

Event comments:

Very well put together event. I look forward to doing it again.
This was my First Half Iron Distance
