Went to the Toronto Fall Bike show on the weekend, with every intention of just looking, perhaps getting a new jersey or some tires, even brought my 6yr old so I wouldn't stop and look at anything for too long.  Instead I wound up buying a 2011 Speed Concept 7.2.  Fell in love with it the moment I saw it (and it's heavily discounted price).

Picture does not do it justice.

Ha ha!  All-in guy could still have easily bought a SC.  (Sorry OP -- private joke.  Enjoy the SC.  It is a great bike.)

Neil-nice bike!  So, was it an even swap for the 6 year old or did you have to add some cash?

Laughing  Bringing the 6yr old was a good attempt to avoid temptation! Congrats though. I know you'll enjoy that bike, but I'm biased. I have the very same 2011 model and it's been a blast.

There was some good deal there and I almost went back with a P3 as well... But I know I would have to pay double the price... Once for the P3... and another time to buy something for the wife... :D

Pretty crowded there anyway

I had to setup a secret Paypal account to get my bike.  It was a covert operation.  If only I had some way of controlling that brown truck that delivers packages.

Have it delivered to your place of work.  Don't ask me whether I've done this, because I won't tell.  Innocent

I remember the thread on how you got your new bike - I'm assuming that's what you referred to.  Now we'll see if I can win a race.

There were some amazing deals to be had.  We waited in a 1/2km line just to get in the door when it opened.  But I got the bike for $2K which I simply couldn't pass on - even though I tried (admittedly not very hard, but I did sort of kind of try to talk myself out of it).

I was hoping to see a dog as well.

But seriously, my girlfriend buys things without telling me and if I want to buy a bike I will its that simple. If I buy a bike that I cannot afford then shame on me for scheming to get it. But why must we play into the silly husband card. Why do we have to play stupid and senseless and begging for permission.

If you cannot afford it then all the permission tricks and other schemes are just a sham. Make the money and buy it. Don't make the money don't buy it. This applies to both women and men equally.

I trust the OP can afford the bike and while non-triathletes cannot understand the things we spend money on so be it, I don't understand why others buy the things they buy.

Sorry for the rant...

Yeah, you should, as it was full of "Humour"...

...Anyway, should I ask my wife if I can crack a joke or should I just do it and see if she finds out ???

Didn't see this thread derailing, but off it goes.

To answer your question/rant - it's called marriage.  I won a performance award at work = the money I used to buy the bike, without it there would not have been a bike.  BUT, my finances are not mine alone, they are also my wife's - doesn't really matter who made the money, it's our money, and if one of us plans to make a big purchase then we should consult with each other.

For the record - as soon as I saw the bike and it's price I called her...

I think, really, we were all just having a little fun and sharing OP's joy a bit.  (I hope you didn't also take seriously the comment about trading children for bikes....)

I really like that bike. Rode it when I was bike shopping in the spring. I hope it feels half as smooth to you as it did to me.

My wife and I have been married for 17 years, we don't share a single bank account.  We lived together before we were married and split the bills, it worked fine so we kept it up.  It helps if you both make nearly the same yearly salary, bvut you can make adjustments here and there.  I have no idea what she spends her money on, other then her share of the household bills, and I couldn't imagine having to discuss a personal purchase with her. The only thing that ever requires a discussion about money is splitting the costs of family vacations.  We've never had a single argument over money, I can't imagine we ever will.
