I was hoping to see a dog as well.

But seriously, my girlfriend buys things without telling me and if I want to buy a bike I will its that simple. If I buy a bike that I cannot afford then shame on me for scheming to get it. But why must we play into the silly husband card. Why do we have to play stupid and senseless and begging for permission.

If you cannot afford it then all the permission tricks and other schemes are just a sham. Make the money and buy it. Don't make the money don't buy it. This applies to both women and men equally.

I trust the OP can afford the bike and while non-triathletes cannot understand the things we spend money on so be it, I don't understand why others buy the things they buy.

Sorry for the rant...

I think, really, we were all just having a little fun and sharing OP's joy a bit.  (I hope you didn't also take seriously the comment about trading children for bikes....)

Bummer as I was hoping for some children for my bike. (are you sure its a red schwin).  While my post was tongue in cheek, as they say there is truth in humor and I'll stop at that.

What can they be traded for then?

Bread. Apples. Very small rocks. Cider. Great Gravy. Cherries. Mud. Churches. Lead. A Duck.

Oh, sorry.  Wrong joke.  (Speaking, as we were, of derailing the thread...)

Went to the Toronto Fall Bike show on the weekend, with every intention of just looking, perhaps getting a new jersey or some tires, even brought my 6yr old so I wouldn't stop and look at anything for too long.  Instead I wound up buying a 2011 Speed Concept 7.2.  Fell in love with it the moment I saw it (and it's heavily discounted price).

Picture does not do it justice.

Same thing happened to me last year. It hasn't grown a bit but I love it more every day.

Didn't see this thread derailing, but off it goes.

To answer your question/rant - it's called marriage.  I won a performance award at work = the money I used to buy the bike, without it there would not have been a bike.  BUT, my finances are not mine alone, they are also my wife's - doesn't really matter who made the money, it's our money, and if one of us plans to make a big purchase then we should consult with each other.

For the record - as soon as I saw the bike and it's price I called her...

I couldn't have said it better myself. Your wife is a lucky woman and I'm sure you're also lucky. I might would try to flirt with you myself if I weren't happily married to a man who's just as smart as you- lol. Seriously- if more people had this attitude I venture to say there'd be far less divorces. My husband and I do have the same philosphy and we have 21 years of marriage because of it. There have been times where I was the bread winner and times where he was and it didn't matter- we still play by the it's all ours rule and respect for each other rule. It has served us well and no one feels it's a silly husband or silly wife card. We don't do the hiding purchases thing though so there isn't any game playing going on either. I can agree that the lying, hiding it, concealing purchases thing is crazy and silly but I think or at least hope that most of the people are just playing in those responses.

Just want to say kuddos to you, I wish you many new bikes and years of happy marriage ;-)

Do I get to pick which of my children I trade? If so I don't even necessarily need the bike in exchange. Keep in mind I have an 18 yo son- just saying. LOL.

That is a fantastic bike.  WOW!  How close are the dimensions of the sc to your previous ride.  Really nice.  Just wondering if your new bike is an evolution from your previous setup or if this is strictly an upgrade.  Because that is a nice bike.

I'd actually say this is a few stages in the evolutionary process.  My current/previous ride was a Trek 1500 road bike wtih clip on's, so this should be quite different.  Dimension wise, I'm not entirely sure because the 1500 is a 60cm Frame, while the the SC is a Large.  I did not have stack and reach measurements (my bad) before making the purchase but I know the SC better fits a longer leg/shorter torso rider, and that's where I fit.

Well said!  My wife doesn't work, but we make all financial decisions together because in the end it is about respecting your spouse.  Just because she doesn't earn the money, doesn't mean she shouldn't have a say in how it is spent.  Just my 2 cents.
