If I can swing the scheduling, I'm shooting for Oct 31. It may have to be another day, but it will be before Nov 12.

This is quite possibly the most awesome race I've ever heard about... though I am a little bummed at the closed entry.   I can't wait to read the RR and please, please, please have pics!

exactly! I love it. one person, one wave.  I love the personal notes on the course.  You have a great sense of humor.

Why did they cancel Clearwater? I would have thought that would have been a popular race! So sorry that they did, that just stinks.  Triple T was canceled for me, and that was my big hurrah at the end of the year.

Wow.  Not just a triathlon, but an invitational nonetheless.  You must be at the pointy end of the spear if you got the invite!

Terrific post, a perfect (and rare) balance of humor and poignancy. And huge congrats on how far you have come since last December!

I don't want to hijack your post, but......

Seeing as how you're not all that far from eastern upstate New York, if you want a road-trip to a great little home-grown race, check out Fronhofer Tool Triathlon (www.fronhofertooltriathlon.com). It was begun by a local triathlete, Kevin Crossman, along with family and friends, in 2008. It spent two years as an olympic-distance, and then in 2010 added a sprint the same day -- oly at 7 a.m., sprint at 2 p.m. (There are also kids triathlons the evening before.) It's about 25 miles east of Saratoga Springs.

EVERY detail is attended to immaculately, and ANY race director could benefit from watching how Kevin and his crew work. The post-race food (after the oly) is among the best I have ever had, the raffle after both races is generously extensive, and even "outsiders" such as I am are made to feel part of that small-but-wonderful tri community.

It is always the first weekend in August. I did it in '08 and (both races!) in '10.....so I'm due to be there again in '12. It would be a pleasure to meet you there!

Sounds like I'm going to have to make this an annual event!

I'd bump it to the first day of deer season just for the novelty of it, except I want to switch to a schedule of only running very soon, for my half marathon in January. Maybe next year I'll move it to deer season. Make it an annual event, see how my times drop. I have total control over the course, so I can't be surprised with changes year to year.

As for the exclusiveness of the race, I will consider a lottery for next year. Then Goosedog can't accuse me of sandbagging. Cool But I need to keep the homebrew-underground aspect of it, so I may not even announce the date until the night before.

The first rule of 5168 is you do not talk about 5168. (OK that will never work for me, I talk a lot.)

Very cool.

I was thinking, from the thread title, to just leave it at "Who needs WTC?" I've never signed up for one of their events, and never will.

OK, so since the 5150 series is a bust, I figured I'd fill the void. True, my new series is only one race, limited to one participant, and registration is now closed. But I'll be happy.

Great race description. Of course, I am fixated on irrelevant race details -- you preach twice on Sunday at different churches?

Yes, it's a 2point rural parish. I've been here 13 years, since seminary. The thing about my usual bike routes is that if I had a major problem, I'm never more than a mile from a house of someone I know from church, even in the middle of "nowhere."
