Besides the "quality of room issue" at race HQ another critique I've heard from others this past weekend is the noise from the announcer during the Gatorade Swim in the morning. At 7 sharp the DJ and fun begins outside, Wed thru Fri,  so if you want to sleep late or take an early morning nap its hard with the noise from the Gatorade open swim which was from 7-10am. Just a thought....

Just to set the record straight, I am not an IM.  My reference to other races we've done was to other triathlons. My longest to date is a half IM.  IMFL 2006 is my first full IM.  I would also like to concur that I do know stuff. , as does Jim.  There, now I feel better.

run4yrlif - 2005-11-08 12:31 PM Yeah...he knows his stuff...but I stayed there, so maybe I know my stuff, too.

runnergirl29 - 2005-11-08 12:30 PM

run4yrlif - 2005-11-08 1:01 PM When I stayed there for Gulf Coast, it was very cool to be able to just walk out of my hotel room, take the elevator down, and be in the transition area in literally 20 steps. Ditto for the swim start. It took all the gut wrenching about having to worry about getting to the race site away. And I'm thinking for IM, the less I have to worry about, the better.

Here's the downside: I spent way too much at the expo because it was *right there.*

Ken - 2005-11-08 11:57 AMJim - Just out of curiousity, why would it matter how close you are to "race central?" Being within a few miles is certainly more convenient than most of the races we do and it still affords easy access. Is there something we need to know?

Jim- listen to Ken. He knows his stuff- he's an IM!

Sorry Ken for classifyin gyou as an IM too early   I think I am going to keep the room I have.  Like the previous post, I would be really irritated if I couldn't nap becuase of the loud music outside

I'm sure I'll have room.  I reserved a 3 bedroom/2 bath condo and it sleeps 10.  I figured I'd pick up a few jock straps and anyone else who wants to stay there.  So far there's me, my freind and her husband, and then the rest is undecided.  I'm sure you could crash with us if you wanted to!  What days were you planning on going?

Jessica and I stayed at the Edgewater condos - 2 br/2bath condo with full kitchen, w/d. It was quiet and within walking distance to Publix (we made only 5 trips to Publix in 3 days). Also, there's a Cineplex across from the entrance (in case you just need to decompress).

We walked to the Saturday morning swim at the race venue and got in a little run back (~20 mins). On Friday I ran to the venue and back for my short run.

My only regret is that I didn't bring my golf clubs as it's a golf condo villa; our view was of one of the greens.

Oh, also, there is a Marriott that is off the main tacky-ass drag. It's quiet and pretty. Looked like a nice place to go for runs (can't tell you how ugly our run scenery was) and to escape the noise and cheeseyness. You will need a car to get around.

Also, there are several high-rises currently under construction on the main drag and just down the street from Boardwalk. You might find some brand-spanking-new rooms later in 2006.

For those of you who like to camp St Andews State Park is fabulous. The run portion goes thru it twice and it is only 3 miles from the start.
I just made reservations, $25 a night.
Reservations here:

Manatee Express - 2005-11-08 9:46 AM have done half there twice and stayed at the Sunbird first year and Moonraker the next. Both are older condos but were pretty good. Less than half mile from race site, nice pool and on the beach. I am gonna look for one of the newer condo's for the Ironman.

I stayed at the Sunbird for a sprint last year.  I just reserved another condo there for the Ironman week.  Got it for 7 nights and $625 for the week.  I recommend not using the link from the IMFL site, but doing some research to rent it from an owner instead.  Much cheaper that way.  From the site, the rate was $153/night.  As you can see, the rate I got was much cheaper.  These are one bedroom condos with full kitchen and gulf front with 2 pools.  There are no two bedrooms here, but do have a sofa/sleeper if you needed the extra bed for more people.  I am going to need my alone time this week.  I will probably find a larger place for the family.

Who else is staying at Gulf Crest?  I tried calling their numbers from their website to chceck on my reservation dates and all those numbers have been disconnected.  Has anyone tried or been able to get ahold of them lately?

Ok- I tired emailing them and wasn't able to send an email because an address isn't available for them.  Weird...I just wanted to check my reservation- I can't remember the exact dates I reserved the condo for.

Sounds like it may not matter when you made the reservation for. Did you give them a deposit?

Yep- they have my credit number and have already charged me the deposit when I called back in November.  I just think it's crazy.  When I called the number it was for like the Rennaianse Hotel.  The lady thought I was crazy when I told her I was trying to get ahold of Gulf Crest and that's the number on their website.  Maybe they were bought out or something.  I'm trying not to freak out but I just need to confirm my reservation and can't even get ahold of them.  Weird..

I'd start looking for another place (Boardwalk Beach Resort), and call your credit card company.

I wonder if they got bough out and haven't changed their website or something.  But...I would think that if something like that was going on then the website would mention it.

That and the phone would be working.

It's Spring Break, so if they were ever going to be open it would be now.

Don't panic yet.

Remember that the Gulf Crest is not a hotel. It is a bunch of Condo's on the beach. Each is managed by a property management company chosen by the owner.

I am not sure why the number you had used before is not working. If it is just a matter of noone picking up the phone then I would keep trying. The place that managed our condo was only open in the afternoon.  There is a front desk at Gulf Crest for condo owners. If you still have no luck I would find the number for Gulf Crest itself and try to contact the condo owner.

It's not even that nobody is picking up.  ALL those numbers have been disconnected and no longer in service.  Or...they are completely the wrong number.  I can't even email them- when I go to send it I get a message that says the email address is not available.  It's all very strange.

I was going to try and book something here through one of the owners directly. Have you had any luck resolving this yet?

Did I mention to you guys that the Americana is gone! As in no longer exsists!! I used to stay there every year for GCT. They guy who owned it was a triathlete and would give us a great rate and a ride to the race start. Sad times in PCB.

I tried calling again this week- no luck.  The lady told me to call the PCB Chamber of Commerce to see why they numbers aren't working.  Hopefully I'll find out if i still have reservations or not.
