How is everyone's training going? I did my last "big" workout yesterday 2150 yard swim/50 mile bike and 8 mile run. It went pretty well, not as tough as I thought it would be.

I woke up this morning and saw where Conroe was flooded and may get more rain. Hope everything is ok for the people in that area and also for the race.

Per last email from the race, lake level was a little low so maybe some of this rain will raise it up a little. I'll be up there around 10am - 12pm on saturday to pickup packet and check out the swim course and do a small bike. Regarding training i've recovered from my itband issues but now dealing with some hamstring issues but will not let that slow me down. Looking forward to race and meeting some of you as well

Any possibility that wetsuits won't be allowed? Or advisable?

I would think that with all the rain they've had recently it will make it very likely a wetsuit swim. Advisable? That's a good question. Me and wetsuits don't get along very well because I'm claustraphobic when I have one on. I have two and will see which one works best.

I don't think the water will be extremely cold.

I did some bass fishing Saturday morning up on the north end of the lake and the water is pretty low right now. It has come up from the last time I was there a couple months ago though. I don't think the water was too cold but I didn't get in so I can't tell you for sure. Caught a few nice bass though!

I hope everyone has a great race!

Everybody have their wetsuits? Looks like it may be a wetsuit race.

I bought a very nice barely used Ironman brand sleeveless wetsuit size medium tall. I'm not going to use it because my old one fits me a little better.

I know this is not the classified section but if it's ok I'd like to just mention that it's available for what I paid for for it, $85. It should fit a guy 5-10 to 6 ft tall and less than 185 pounds.

If anyone out there needs a last minute wetsuit let me know. If I can't sell it I'll consider loaning it at no cost to someone.

I'm getting really excited, how's everyone's taper going?

Probably over-tapering, since the weather didn't allow me to get on the bike at all this weekend, nor did I get to ride all last week. I'll try to get some 20s in during the week though.

Got me a rental wetsuit (as you know from the other thread) and they're going have to tie me down to keep me from using it. Talking about cutting 6-7 minutes off the swim with it.

This morning I practiced in the suit I'm gonna wear on Sunday. It's a De Soto "Dos" but only the bib john. I wore a hydrodynamic lyra tri top with it to avoid the bib john scooping water and it felt really fast. It's more like paddling a boat than swimming.

I don't see how it can't be a wetsuit legal swim with all the rain they've had.

i hope that it is wetsuit legal. I purchased a Zoot wetsuit just for this race. I tried it out this past Thursday and the Bear is so right. It sure helps with the swimming times.

Do you get this volunteer t-shirt at the race? I spoke with the RD about volunteering, and he told me to just show up. I feel like something is missing though... I'm gonna feel silly showing up and being like, "Uhm... I'm here to volunteer!"

This is what I received from the RD via email..

"at this point, plan on being around the lake lawn near the wooden climbing tower around 6:30 am or so. You will get a volunteer shirt and we will place you at the appropriate spots. you can go to www.out-loud.org to see various maps of Del Lago with directions."

Not much other than mentioning that the recent rains raised the lake level about 16 inches and that they fully expect the water temperature to be low enough for wetsuits. Along with this was a reminder that packet pickup is avaliable only on Wednesday and Saturday and that we set clocks back an hour Sunday mroning.

Hey folks, I'm still volunteering too.  Not sure where yet -- something in the morning, then an aid station during the run, 'cause I can last longer than most people at yelling/cheering.

Not sure what I'm going to be wearing or how to distinguish myself.

Okay, CitySky UPDATE:  I'll be wearing my HUGE "Sky Blue" sun hat.  I'll chalk the ground -- "GO BT!", stuff like that -- for 1/4 mile before "my" aid station so you know it's coming.

My aid station will have whatever the race has, PLUS:

Fig Newtons * Ibuprofen * Endurolytes * Sunscreen

& any special requests I receive soon!  PM me if you have a favorite run-time snack!    Remember, you can take stuff from volunteers, and only volunteers!

RACE DAY WEATHER:  Cool and clear in the morning, up to 79 degrees, clear, and NOT humid in the afternoon, winds 1mph in the morning up to 8mph afternoon.  Translation:  PERFECT!  You guys are gonna ROCK this race!

The Bear looked AWESOME -- kinda like his avatar, but MORE ripped, moving, and on a mission.  I bet he did GREAT!

So did any of y'all see your names in the chalk?  I ended up sharing the chalk with the other girls at my station, so there was a lot written along that stretch.

Yeah, my second pass through I was trying to tell you "Great Chalk"! Brightened the run ALL FOUR TIMES I passed. Thanks again. We looked for you as we were leaving but didn't see you.

5:48:11 here, still looking for the official results.

Edit: Found 'em. Finished 7 out of 26 in AG, 192 out of 592  overall finishers.

Are you kidding, Bear is an ANIMAL (snicker, snort).

Thanks for the chalk too!! I felt like a celebrity. Every time I ran over my name, I told the runners around me "Thats me!!!"

Thanks..

Hey Great Racing All!
I ended up handing out chips at the start of the race and then as a WET SUIT STRIPPER!
What a cool wet job! Glad to have helped.
I left when pretty much every1 was on the run course. It was a little hotter by then.

I saw the chalk marks on the run course and saw Bear's name too. Also I think I saw something on the bike course about red bikes but I could be mistaken.

For me it was just about right. It wasn't so bad that I do another 1/2 IM and it wasn't so good that I'm too happy with the way things went. I know I can do much better maybe at BSLT in June.

I got a 4 minute "positon" penalty on the bike which I think is bogus but I guess everyone feels that way about being dinged. That's the first time I've gotten a penalty since 1985. It's upsetting but nothing you can do about it. After the penalty my time was 5:33 something

I guess I should just be glad that the motorcycle carrying the ref didn't run me over. What's the deal with them riding what seemed like 80 mph down the middle of the bike course?

Thanks to all the volunteer's!!!! I didn't get to meet anyone as had alot of family there and it was hard to get away. Saw Bear running during the out and back. Ended up at 5:33, hit the wall at mile 10.5 on the run along with a small mechanical issue on the bike which cost about 5 minutes.
