Subject: Boston's Run To Remember

March 12

Who's in? I know at least a few of the BT'ers are going....

I'm doing it because I love running along the Charles (and its for a good cause - always have to say that), and I've always wanted to run through the city without all the traffic - they're including Memorial Drive this year for the Half.

Awesome course! I can't figure out how come I didn't do this last year - great venue, aid stations w Gatorade and gels, Championchip timing, pace groups....BEER! (After 11 of course on a Sunday here in Massachusetts)

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/1/1_31/3218.shtml Good article about it.

I'm in! My girlfriend and I will be running and we're looking forward to the course. She ran it last and loved the race, but hated running most of it through South Boston.

Of course, I'm always down for Beer.

I don't have the details (yet) but I am planning to bring bike and trainer and set a brick workout. Ride 1-1:30 hrs and then run the 1/2 mary. I just need to find a way to keep out stuff safe while we run... any suggestions?

That could work - but would there be enough parking nearby? And can we run from Jorge's apartment to the start line?

Just realized my company is not putting together a team.  Someone was trying to get people to run together, and maybe hang out a bit afterward.  Guess if I join, I'll be running with BTers

The saturday before the race they have alittle Expo, and most of the booths are still around on the day of the race.

There is the Multisport Expo that was mentioned as a BT get together alittle outside of Boston on that Saturday.

I haven't seen you since last Feb at Hyannis Nikki! Are you doing that one too this year (saw your post on that thread, but it seemed a little iffy)? and the Boston RtR 5 Miler?

Thanks Nikki that might help us!

Set up the trainers at my place might be a bit tricky as there is not a lot of parking availabe at the Backbay and I am like 2-3 miles away from the starting line... Another option might be to place our stuff in someone's car as long as there are a couple available.

If you need to store a bike and a trainer in a car, you can use mine (well my girlfriends ). It will only be able to fit 1 bike though.

We have have some people watching. I'm sure they wouldn't mind looking after some stuff for alittle either, but I'm not sure if that will come through or not.

yeah that's the one I was thinking about....guess that one's not IN the city. Never mind then Cool well, as it stands now, I will be taking public transport into the city. I am still looking for other suggestions to participate in the brick - who all is going to drive in? I haven't seen KathyG and tri_again in this thread yet, and I know they're running.

If we can all drive into the same parking lot/garage, I'd be willing to drive in. We can set up where we all park and then put our bikes in our cars then run off to the race. Just a thought.

I'll be there doing the half.  I'm definitely not up for the brick.  I'll be lucky if I finish the race!

It will be great to see everybody

I don't know what I will be able to do by then- but am hoping to do the short race still.(Optimism springs eternal!)...will be as a "break back in" not a true time effort....
Also interested in the expo the day before..maybe by next weekend we can see what we can put together for get together??

I'm registered for the 1/2. I hope to do it, but am working with my coach to make the final decision. I want to do it since it has been my carrot to keep on running this winter. But when I got hurt playing soccer, I missed more than a month running. My goal is to do well in tris this year not get hurt doing something for fun. Yet it is a great feeling of accomplishment to do something that is hard. Herein lies the internal debate.

Rob has offered to run with me....how cool and nice is that!! That is another push to do it.

As things stand now, I'm to do a 9 mile run on Saturday and then talk it over with my coach.

Now to do do a 1-1.5 hour trainer ride then the 1/2 Mary would be insane for me.  I'll be happy to finish the 1/2 in just about any time. We are not sure what/when/how we are getting there since two of my daughters have a soccer game at the same time in the burbs.

I wouldn't say that doing a 1/2 is just "for fun"--there is a certain amount of "training" and learning that comes out of it as well. And, not only will it help you prepare for that 1/2IM you registered for it will also benefit you on your shorter runs/tris. Not that I'm trying to sway your decision or anything...

Remember... LSR! Nice and easy and enjoy!

Talk to you soon.

hey Kathy, what is your pace? i can join you for the first 5 miles...i can't remember if its the same course, i think it is for the first 5 miles, then the 1/2 goes past the harbor hotel, where the 5 milers end. i'm hoping to maintain (or break) a 10min/mile pace. this means i've got some work to do as well.

when are you running now? i'm doing some of my running on treadmill at the y, but would love someone to 'answer' to for outside runs. i just joined the runaways, do you know that club? i'm hoping to get some club help, support and a running buddy! i still haven't gotten into a schedule for my swims either. its pretty much, random.

I'm a MEer rather than a MA peep but I will be coming down to do the 1/2. I need to figure out transportation(ie drive v public transpo) and whether I'm coming down Sat. It would be an awfully early wakeup if I drive down Sunday and do packet pick up that morning but at least it would be good sleep at home rather than questionable sleep crashed somewhere the night before. I had a bad experience(got lost) driving in the Boston area when I picked up my bike trainer from Belmont Wheelworks in late January so I'm a little scared of driving into the city. Watch out, the country bumkins are coming!

Do you have to pre-register for this, or can you do a race day sign up?  I might consider doing it, but I'm a wuss about driving to Boston.  I'd be willing to top off someone's gas tank if I can ride in with them.
