Hey Nikki,

The course is different this year. I think the 5 milers will run out 2.5 miles with the 1/2ers, then turn around. The 1/2 goes around the Charles so the course doesn't pass the WTC Boston until the end.

Do you have to pre-register for this, or can you do a race day sign up?  I might consider doing it, but I'm a wuss about driving to Boston.  I'd be willing to top off someone's gas tank if I can ride in with them.

Max, want to stop by my place?  I'm very close to the Red Line Alewife station.  Then we can take the T.  But you still have to drive some 50 miles out here.....

Xterratri:  you might want to do that too, if ytou don't mind coming in to the area extra early.

My company has a facility right next to the Alewife station - I can park in the company garage.  There is also a city lot right next to my apartment.  No need to feed meter on Sundays.  This is an option for those who doesn't want to fight his'her way to Boston.

The Bike Show could be a good post-race BT gathering.

Is it walking distance from the finish? (Good way to flush the legs after the run!)

Okay, now that I'm almost not sick any more (first workout back tomorrow!), I think I'm going to be in for the 5 miler. If anyone is coming in from the south, I'm pretty close to the end of the orange line down here, and we can ride in together. I'm going to try to get my neighbor to join us as well.

It'll be good to see everyone!

Max, you are welcome to go in with me. I'm in Norton and will be driving in. Mapquest it and see if it works. Theres always room for one more. Either myself or my friend Marsha (you may have met at last years Hyannis), will be driving. We try to alternate the drives. Lets see, that means taking the pike to 495 south for you.

JoAnne ISIS!!!! - i can't believe I got your screenname wrong..geesh. I hope you can do the run. How are you feeling?

So, they went and changed the course. Does it make it nicer for both races, what is the consensus?

I'm going and I'm right on your way (Acton).  We can drive in together downtown, or to either Alewife or DK's workplace to park.

It would be great if you could join us.  I plan to start out at at 10 min/mile pace.

Heh.  How about Max drive over to Joanne's and both of you carpool to my apt and we all carpool to Alewife to take the T?  Alternatively, we can meet at the T station.
First train leaving Alewife at 6am, trains every 8 min.  Takes about 20-25 min to South Station.  Then change to Silver line to get to WTC.  If we take the 6:30am train, we'll still be able to pick up our race packet.

Several parking options:
The Alewife T station garage - $4 per day
My company garage - 1 minute walking distant from T station, free parking, needs badge to enter.
Arlington City lot outside of my apt - free parking on Sun, 20 min walk from T station, bus accessible.

xterratri - 2006-03-01 6:38 PM I'm a MEer rather than a MA peep but I will be coming down to do the 1/2. I need to figure out transportation(ie drive v public transpo) and whether I'm coming down Sat. It would be an awfully early wakeup if I drive down Sunday and do packet pick up that morning but at least it would be good sleep at home rather than questionable sleep crashed somewhere the night before. I had a bad experience(got lost) driving in the Boston area when I picked up my bike trainer from Belmont Wheelworks in late January so I'm a little scared of driving into the city. Watch out, the country bumkins are coming!

xterratri - why don't you hop on the max/joanne/denise wagon? you could drive to DK and go in with them. I'm southwest of Boston, but if you want to do the extra driving, you're welcome to hop on the Nikki wagon!

Okay, I need a translation. What/where is DK? And where is Alewife? I know interstates 90, 93, and 95 and that is about the limit of my navigational abilities in regards to Boston. I usually avoid it on 495 and have been there twice in my life. But I've never been to NYC so it's still up on that. I would also be up for going to the Bike expo after the race so I'm perfectly willing to hang with BT people all day. So more information, please.

Nikki,

My girlfriend ran it last year and hating running through South Boston for the 1/2. Running alone the river is a much better change. I think the 5 miler course is the same. It should be a great run.

If anyone is coming from the west, you can park by me (free) and we can car pool in. I'm in Brighton so it should only take 10-15 minutes to get to the race by car.

Hehehe... I am DK, aka Denise.  Just to avoid being confused with another BT member Denise2003, so I use my initial.

Alewife T station is the end terminal of the Red Line, in Cambridge.  I live in Alrington, 15-20 min walk to Alewife.  So my proposal is we can either meet at my apartment (you guys park at the Arlington city lot) and we drive 1 car to Alewife to take the T, or we meet at the T station ($4/day parking at the station garage).

Both Alewife T station and my apt is easily accessible from Rte 2.

Okay, I mapquested to Arlington and hopefully lightening doesn't strike twice because they are the same roads I had problems on going to Belmont Wheelworks. Can you please PM me a more exact address and a phone number in case I suffer my navigational issues again? It's those roundabouts and the fact I was expecting big streets and it looked like residential neighborhoods.
I like the idea of parking in the city lot by your apartment and taking one car to the Alewife station, DK.

Max, I will be coming down 95 through NH. Are you somewhere close enough to 95 that it would make sense for us to meet up or for me to pick you up? Mapquest says just shy of 2 hours so I'll probably leave here right about 4 am with the goal of being to Denise's by 0545 so we can be at the train station by 6.

I'm hoping the rain in the forecast goes bye-bye but either way I should probably do a bag check at the race to have other clothes to wear to the bike show if we are going to go directly there. I had a decent(for me) long run this morning so I'm really getting excited about doing the race next weekend. It also marks the last day of season prep for me so it also signifies tri season is coming.

Hey Lynne!

I just sent in my application for the 1/2 marathon.  I'm considering driving in as well, coming from in from the west (north-central Mass).  I'm also sending out a group email to everyone on the New England list, so you should get that in a few minutes!

I figure by driving in and parking at the Trade Center, I'll have my car there for anyone who wants to store their extra gear in it.  I'll get there early, probably before 6 AM.

Oh yeah, I just looked back a page too...duh!  Joanne, I could pick you up and we could drive in together.  I still think going all the way and parking there wouldn't be a bad idea, at least we'd have 1 car there for gear storage, etc.

Max

Lynne:  I just sent you a PM with the directions to my home and my phone number.  We can meet at around 6am, +/-.  I'm considering driving too, since 6am should have much traffic and it should only take about 20 min to get to WTC.  Coming to my apt from 95 should be pretty straight forward.

Anyone else want to carpool with me?

There is a 711 right by the entrance. We could meet by there, but I think that last year it was kinda a tight squeeze with the race start being right outside. Another spot is across the street, behind the stand where the officials start the race. There should be alittle more open space, but it was alittle tricky to get to and from the WTC hall as the race start approaches. I guess there are pros and cons to everything.

Just some suggestions.

How about the Dunkin Donuts next to the 7-11?  A little more spreaded out, I guess, may not be as crowded.

Or maybe further away by the new condos, facing WTC.
