We swam Saturday and Sunday in the river. The water is fine and not even cold! Still wondering about where the course will be. Straight along the beach in the relatively shallow water or out in the middle of the river where it's deeper, colder and a stronger current?

It will be in the swim area. That's where they swim the Motor City Mile. We'll probably parallel the beach!

The water jumped 6 degrees in the past week!

The motor city mile race goes way out into the river. I tried it two years ago. The water was choppy and you started by going up the River against the current. I had a hard time and was told to stopped and turn back. I did not train in the river before the race. This year I have at least 3 times. It was nice and choppy this weekend so I got some good practice for this Sunday.

Nice pictures!

I thought it was a really fun race.  A couple of minor glitches - the moving buoy was a little unnerving - but other then that I enjoyed it.  The water was clean and it really didn't seem cold to me - even without a wetsuit.  I thought 3D did a decent job of running the race.  What did you think?

Anyone look at the results yet? The run paces seem too fast for the given elapsed time. Was the course longer than 6.2? The paces seem to work out if you make the run distance ~6.5. Anyway, just wondering if anyone else noticed this.

Also, I wonder how much I ended up swimming. I was WAAAYYY off course more than once. I found that byproduct of the current harder to deal with than just the added effort of swimming against it.

The run was 6.5 miles. It's listed on the results that way.
I thought the event was great overall. Not a single problem from the standpoint of all the participants I was there with and those I talked to.
Yes, the swim was difficult. Difficult is not bad.

Ah, I missed that. Thanks.

I agree that difficult is not bad. I really enjoyed the event. My only suggestions are a few more bouys and mile markers for the run. Other than that, I thought it was awesome and will definitely be back next year.

My wife was saying the same thing all day yesterday regarding the bouys. She definitely thought there should have been more on the leg back in. Interesting that this is a perception shared by more than a few people. I bet that will change on future events. I guess I feel the same way although I could not have seen if I was off course or not due to sun reflection. I thought I was on a straight shot back to the beach. That was the most tiring swim I have ever done. For me, the current was a huge factor. My time was 10 min off my usual oly swim time. So were most swim times.

It was my first Oly swim (in an event) so I don't know exactly how much I was off, but I was 14 minutes off of what I thought was a pretty good estimate of how long it would take me. I'm sure the swim was one of the "glitches" they kept mentioning that they would work out so I'm sure it'll be better next year.
