From the USAT Newsletter:

2006 Duathlon National Championship
Mason, Ohio will host some of the best duathletes in the country and the entire world in 2006. USA Triathlon and the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau will conduct a duathlon weekend which will host the 2006 International Triathlon Union's (ITU) Duathlon World Series and USAT Duathlon National Championships. The elite World Series and US Elite National Championship will be held on May 6th with the Age Group Duathlon National Championship being held on May 7th. USAT is returning to Mason after a extremely successful 2005.

For age group competitors, 12 athletes per age group will qualify for the ITU Short Course Duathlon World Championships set for Corner Brook, Canada on July 29-30. Unclaimed spots will roll down to 20th place in each age group. Other races serving as qualifiers for the world championships will be:

• Desert Classic Duathlon
• Brandywine Valley Duathlon
• Lazy E Formula 1 Duathlon
Shamrock Duathlon
• Apple Duathlon

The top finisher in each age group will earn the right to participate at the World Championships. The one World Championship team spot awarded at these events will not pass down to anyone other than the winner of the age group. For more information please visit: www.usatriathlon.org.

Looks like competition just got a little tougher!

Excellent...I was afraid the competition was going to be too easy. Just make sure that Jorge doesn't know about this...we don't need that kind of speed

any newbies participating in this race this year

I want to dive in but it will be my first and I am a little bit hesitant

I'm no speed demon, but I think I can get through it.

You should absolutely do it. It was my first multi-sport race that involved road biking (oh wait, it was my second but that was years ago) and I think it was the Captain's first as well (correct me if I am wrong Rob).

It is a fun race that has people from all levels. There are the first timers on Mtb bikes to the real speed demons.

See you there

Polly,

Ok, Since it is a slow ride and I have zero fitness I am in for the ride. I too am on the fence about this race ( but I guess someone has to be DFL) how about we do one loop on the run course after the ride? I am happy to be a back of the packer on the run doing 25-27 minutes if anyone is interested.

Any takers???

Seth

Rob, do not eat a roast beef sandwich on friday night or we are all doomed....

Also, depending on how I feel might want to do another loop on the bike if anyone is interested pm me or post an idea here. No guys with race wheels need apply... only kidding..

Hi Marlborough Man,
I am a steady mid-packer too—so stop it!

I think doing a run after the ride is a great idea!

Polly…?

Okay... I want everyone to go back and re-read the post above. Pay particular attention to the following:

"Since it is a slow ride and I have zero fitness I am in for the ride..."

Then, Mr. "zero fitness" says... "how about we do one loop on the run course after the ride?"

Also note the following, "might want to do another loop on the bike ..." Is that AFTER the run???

So you tell me, who is yankin’ whose chain???

See ya’ there!

Now, where the he11 did I put the mayo???

Cappy,

I am in desperate need of more training so i figured two SLOW loops are my style. And a shuffle in between.

By the way, perhaps you should try miracle whip!

NOt to hijack the thread but is anyone doing the griskus OLY tri or interested in a recon ride? I am thinking that might be fun. I hear it is a tough technical bike course. Basically, that doesnt mean much to the captn and his weekly 90 mile rides, who loves ya baby!!

Cappy,

It is all us regular folk against you...snowshoes and all! Try and take it easy on us Sat.

Hey, this is fun! Just ran your favorite lake course and the road is in pretty rough shape not to mention sand in spots a few inches deep.

Hi Gang,

It looks as if we lost Polly as well. I am defintely doing this on Saturday. If anyone is still planning on going please let me know. I am going with the original plan of an 8am start. My plan is to ride the course at a moderate pace ..go for a 1 loop run or shuffle (LOL) and yes ride the course one more time for fun.

If anyone wants to join me for any or all of this journey please either post here or drop me a pm. I have 3 children and need to get my schedule set or else!

The weather is looking better so come on out for an easy tune up!!

Hope to see you soon,

Seth

I'll be pre-riding the course later in the day - if a later time works out for anyone better than the 8:00 get-together, please let me know.

This is a great race, and has long-served as my "season opener". Hopefully, we'll get a great crowd this year out there, and the weather will be improved from last year!

See you out there.

Nice ride today.

BTW:
I think it's worth noting, for those of you unaware, last year's results show our man jvinciqu placed 4/10 in his AG and 18/148 OA!

And Stone was 6/10 AG and 33 OA!

Can't wait to see you guys with some hardware this year!

HI Guys,

Great time today!! It was a little disconcerting when I was pushing my bigggest gear and cappy went past me in his granny gear!!!

Pam, very nice to meet you and your husband. You are more than ready for this race it wont be as hard as today so register and have a blast.

It was nice to see you Rob I knew you couldnt resist!! Have a great ride tomorrow. Sometime I will have to join you on one of these century rides, they sound like fun.
