I have not posted in a while. Well, before reading the last few posts, I thought I was the only "Triathlete" who misses workouts on there training plan.

4 weeks into my HIM training plan.  I feel pretty good.  Swim is going good, no problems there.  Bike I have always been strong in.  After todays 35 mile ride I see by the Garmin 910xt I am improving.

Well my run, I am running 10 min miles, and I hate it.  I have always ran in the 8 min miles.

I know my weight has alot to do with it.  Last April I was 6'3" and 312lbs.  Got too 280lbs in Oct 2011.  Now even training twice as much at last Sept.  I keep staying about  282lbs.  Wife does say my legs are very muscular ( more than last year).

I do eat a lot better then last year too, no soda, no deserts, no sugar.  Very rarly eat fast food.

I have gotton some blood tests from the Doctor.  Other than very low in Vitamin D.  Everything else is normal, even my thyroid.

My Chiropractor wants me to do Standard Process clensing diet.  I dont think I can workout on that crazy diet ( no meat for 11 days).  But I will try anything right about now.

Anyone have any ideas?  Please help.

Just finished my indoor reverse tri! 30 min run on the treadmill, 1h bike and... a long hot shower :-) Hope everyone is having a great week-end.

Brian, great to have you back. Shane is living proof you can train/race w/o meat. Do you track your calories (in/out) and your % of fat? I am not expert in this area, but I know that muscle weights more than fat so you could actually loose fat, gain muscle and your net weight may not move. Also know that unless you are in deficit of calories, weight may not change regardless of training. Out of curiosity, why a Chiro for nutrition advises?

....and how was the indoor tri business?  good?

I had a good day after a rest yesterday - yay for rest days though i get a little edgy - beer helps that baby!

So today 2 hours on the trainer (still wet on the roads) and then a 30min run.  Happy with that!

I am taking in about 2600 to 2800 calories a day.  By two differnet calorie calulators I should be taking in 3500 calories a day.  I am slowly working on changing my eating habits to 5 meals a day, it is very hard for me I work rotating shiftwork all the time.  Looking at trying the zig zag diet.

My Chiropractor is also a doctor of osteopathy.   I little crazy, but a good guy.  He thinks everyone should be a vegan.  No offense, I told him it was not happening.

Taking in that much is a huge amount. Good luck. That about what I get near mid summer training. Be careful on the types, don't eat just to eat!

Anyone ever have the mental toughness day? I had an OK ride today, but it was 40 miles in the rain and 42 degrees. Winning for just being out there!

It's what you achieve on those days that counts more than any other session!  Awesome job!

Ok starting yesterday I reduced down to 2,200 calories.  Remember I am 6'3".
I feel pretty good.  But, yesterday was a rest day.  I do a 4 mile run and core work this afternoon,  I hope I have enough energy or the day.

feel very flat today....I'm a bit sleep deprived.  Can't seem to get to sleep that well coz I feel so wired from the exercise - think I'm not eating enough coz i'm dropping pounds like crazy (not upset about that to be honest!).  And when my husband leaves for work at 4.30am (he's a mailman) I am wide awake so I'm having long days and short nights.

Just needed to share that people!  I suppose the other reason i'm flat is it's recovery week so am probably missing the amount of endorphins I got last week!

Anyway yesterday I did what was supposed to be a recovery run but I smashed it.  Smashed my 3km in the pool Monday night too, and this morning i did 30min trainer.  Got OWS tonight, not going to go too hard, just do what I can.  probably our last one this summer or maybe one more.  It's getting cold and dark.

How's everyone else doing?

And here on the other side of the world, we are just getting some light back!  Sunny today too, for the first time in a bit.  Going to try and get outside on the bike for a bit tomorrow before work.  I have my first race on Sunday, a sprint--getting excited!

Had a pretty good weekend of training.  Trainer on Saturday morning, then a run in the rain in the evening, Sunday a swim, and yesterday a run in the am, trainer pm.  Taper week, so nothing too much.  Going for a swim in an hour or so.  Long days at work past couple weeks, so just trying to stay loose and take it easy.

I think I'm glad my spouse isn't a mail carrier--although, I would just roll over and go back to sleep!  My issue is waking up!  I still hate mornings, although I am definitely getting better about getting out of bed for a workout.  Will definitely be easier as spring and summer come along, I need light!!

Have a good week all.

Good luck Brian and make sure you monitor your fatigue in the process.

Question for the group, 9 months after purchase, I returned my Garmin forunner 405cx due to bugs with the watch and HR Strap broken. I am contemplating the new run trainer from Timex, and maybe the global trainer. Has any-one got experience with the Timex brand (quality, customer service/warranty) ?

I may be in the middle of a swim breakthrough.....Sunday swim was good, I think I posted about it.  Was in the 2:05-2:10 per 100 range.  Felt good about that time.  Tonight, did 6x50, averaging :57 and 6x100 averaging 1:58.  I was going to ask if they shortened the pool...

I am racing on Sunday, so I have gone out and bought a pair of tri shorts and a tri top and figured I should try them out in the pool tonight before Sunday.  Do they make me go faster???  I'd like to take credit, but that seems like a big jump!

Better than the time, though, was that I felt as though I was getting distance all the way through my stroke, rather than the usual hitching "stroke/pause/stroke/pause".  I know I was focusing on staying relaxed, and didn't feel like I was really pushing.  Guess that is the secret...  Hopefully I can recreate that again...

Hi all - back from vacation and ready to go!  Well, maybe not until tomorrow as we got in pretty late last night/this morning.  But it is unseasonably warm here today, so I may go a run.  Had a great vacation with the family and enjoyed the training break, although I did manage to get a few runs in.  I'm going to try and post a picture of my garmin route from my long run - we'll see if it works.  Ate too much, drank too much, and was lazy, but I think it was good for me.  To cheer me up, when I got back I looked at the results from my indoor try and couldn't believe I finished 3rd overall!  Not a large field and a goofy format, but I'll take it!  Thinking about another one at the end of the month.  Looks like everyone is keeping up with the training - good to see.  Planning to get back on the trainer tomorrow morning - I'm sure it will be a rude wake-up call.  I'll try to just post my garmin route right in my post - if it doesn't work, then hopefully this link will: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/155732722

Welcome back Dave. Loved your route in connectgarmin (chose the satellite view)! Did not do the math but I suspect the majority of our group spent last week in the Commonwealth :-) Any OWS opportunities?

gotta say that my OWS last night was AMAZING!  I was fast - I wasn't last!  First time ever - I could see Coach John Van Wisse and he's looking out to the BOP saying has anyone seen JoJO?  And I'm like - Johnny I'm here already - he was WTF!  And then he kind of watched me during the rest of the session and was so impressed with the improvement and my awesome drafting capabilities he said JoJo you got on Frankies toes and you would not let him go - like a stalker!

We did races - 460m.  regroup and back.  I did that twice, so 2km.  the rest did one more set but I cooled down with another lady and we watched coach Johnny swim to catch them up and we were awestruck.  Don't know if you've ever seen Michael Klim swim but it's the same style - their top half comes right out of the water like a speedboat.  phenomenal.

Ran today - faster than I ever have.  I feel like it's all coming together.

Love it!

Kirsten it feels awesome!  This training program is like a drug - I can't get enough of it - I now understand all my triathlete friends who do this stuff - it's consuming.  I talk about it all the time (with those that care!)

Talk about mental toughness. Mine was tested to the max yesterday.

We had 64 deg. weather with 25-30 MPH winds coming out of the SSW.

We set out straight into the wind and after 10 miles I was not sure I could keep going. On a side note, this was my first road ride of the year.

After allowing the LA to clear from my legs around the 15 mi. mark I decided I was not going to allow the wind to get me.

At the end of the day we managed 40 miles. The last 20 miles was with the wind at our back so it was fun peaking at 35 MPH on the way back.

Definitely had my mental toughness tested, but did not think it would be so early in the season.

First 1000m time trial in the pool - am shocked.  17mins!  that is incredible.  My coach said that you need to take a bit off because i don't do flip turns so that slows me down, plus add a wetsuit and drafting....

Unbelievable - where's that wine, I'm celebrating!

That is an awesome swim time for a 1000m. You have definitely turned a corner over the past couple moths. I am sure your the upcoming year is going to be incredibly exciting for you.

Now...if I could get my swim times down to that. :-)

Keep it up. Your hard work is paying off.

Thanks - really flying high on that time.  I feel just in the past week I turned that speed corner.  Probably just all the training, the bike's giving me stronger legs, the run works my core and shoulder strength with swimming, put it all together and way you go!  Making me very tempted to give IM a go next year.

Already an exciting year, I've achieved more than I ever have before with just the sprint and Oly!

Way to go Jo for your performance! Great to see you are reaping the benefits of the hard work in the ocean.

I have missed a full week of training after reaching a peak last week. I thought I managed to get rid of my cold, but it came back with a revenge. I think it was also fueled by a crazy workload at the office. So went to see the doctor last monday, get antibiotics prescription  and the pumps for the bronchitis. Super tired throughout the week but cough and sore throat are now gone (at last!). Sorry for the details, needed to vent it out...

Of course, this was supposed to be the first week of BASE1 of the plan. This did get me frustrated to de-train instead of building volume. Will see tonight how the trainer goes....Workload at the office does not look like it will decrease a lot next , so I guess my time mgt and prioritization skills will be put to the test.

If it's any consolation I missed the first week of Base1 of the plan started in week 2.  You will find you already have a strong base anyway and jumping straight in at week two was fine for me.

Thanks for the encouragement - makes it all worthwhile -

I'm even starting to think about a full IM.  I've swim 4km, I've run two marathons just the bike to go and stick it all together!

Do I get to call myself a triathlete now?  First sprint today.  Came 2/5 in my AG, which is kind of neat.  Swim was t-e-r-r-i-b-l-e!  I have a lot of work to do, to get to 1.9km in OW.  I don't panic exactly, but I am just not comfortable yet.  I breast stroked the vast majority.  Disappointed in that.  Bike felt really good, run also, so 2 out of 3 ain't bad!  Transitions were good, at least as far as I can tell, not having a reference point!  All was set up, had no troubles getting socks/shoes on for either bike or run.  Weather was supposed to be rainy, but was overcast, with occasional sunny break, which was fantastic!  More info for those who care to read my race report:  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=429796

Hope everyone has had a good weekend.  Beginner HIM plan starts now!Surprised
