Veteran 214 , Nova Scotia | Subject: Dear Mr Shoe Company Exec First, it was you, Mr Saucony. When I started running, the knowledgeable and patient salesman at my local run shop (LRS) spent 45 minute helping me pick shoes to replace my cross trainers. We chose a nice pair of Rides. I bought pairs every 3-4 months. One year later, you "upgraded" to the Ride 2, and I couldn't get a pair to fit. So my (new - because I moved) LRS helped me pick a pair by NB. Then it was you, Mr New Balance. I started in the predecessor to the 759. Then you "upgraded" to the 759. However, the fit was identical, so I pressed on. Now, after 18 months, you have "upgraded" to the 880. After searching the web and countless NB outlet stores while on vacation, I was forced to accept your terms. But, I thought, the last time that Mr NB upgraded, it was a simple one for one swap. So I tried the 880, they fit, and I ran. After two runs of less than 13k total, I had a rub in the right ankle that caused an asymetrical stride, leading to ITB issues on the left side. Back to my (third- I moved again) LRS. They took back the shoes and put me in a nice pair of Brooks Ghosts. I tried the Ride 4, and other neutral NB shoes, but you two let me down again. I just got back from an easy 5k with the Ghosts, and they feel great. If you are out there Mr Brooks, don't mess with my kicks. By the way, does anyone else have format issues when using the forums from an Android tablet, even on the mobile version of BT? |

Same here - going on 5 or 6 years in them. I just keep looking dumber every time I go in and say "I need 2140s" and they are on to 2150s, or 2160s or what not. |

NH | Subject: RE: Dear Mr Shoe Company Exec I totally agree with the OP. I'm trying to find a new New Balance right now since my previous version is getting too hard to find. I have extremely wide feet, so my choices are limited and New Balance seems to have the most room in the forefoot. Why oh why do they have to change? |

But why do they have to change the lasts? If I find a pair that fits me well, I tend to be pretty loyal to the brand (I have fairly short and wide feet, making a well fitting pair extra hard to find). But I have changed brands a few times when I could not find a decent fit in a current line up. Fortunately, I have sometimes lucked out at the local outlet and been able to get a couple of pairs of close out models to last another year. |

Pro 4189 Pittsburgh, my heart is in Glasgow | Subject: RE: Dear Mr Shoe Company Exec Pro tip from the shoe sales lady: BUY YOUR SHOES NOW! LIKE RIGHT NOW! The 2160s, Adrenaline, Wave Inspire7, WaveRider(whatever), Kayanos, etc are all getting ready to change to their new models. If you're really in love with your shoes, now is the time to buy, including the fact that most of the aforementioned are on clearance. That being said, I started out in the Asics Landreth, had three or so pairs until they changed something in the heel cup, and it just wasn't the same. I had a brief (and very painful!) affair with a pair of Saucony's, and then discovered my dream shoe in a Mizuno Wave Inspire about three weeks before my first marathon. Five races later and I still love them. The WaveInspire8 is coming out soon, and the reviews are very positive. I'm going to get a pair as soon as they're available through my source and I'll let you know, but I anticipate them being awesome. |

Expert 1095 C-bus | Subject: RE: Dear Mr Shoe Company Exec I feel your pain. My love affair with Brooks Adrenaline have ended with the 11s. The 10s were as comfy as slippers and treated me well. The 11s caused blisters, and I tried multiple pairs. After buying every last pair of 10s in my size on the internet (or so it seems), I hope Mr. Brooks has seen the error of his ways, or else my eyes and feet will be straying to another... |

Master 2460 | Subject: RE: Dear Mr Shoe Company Exec While I have had minimal problems switching up shoes over a good number of years of running, it does get frustrating to have the constant shoe 'updates' that change what was a perfectly good thing.
I made the switch to minimalist zero drop shoes specifically to counter this 'feature creep' in shoes. Worse comes to worse, I can put on a shoe with no midsole and take off in those. It's taking some adaptation that's not trivial, but I'm already looking forward to more consistency in my shoes with the minimization of the midsole contribution and consistent heel-toe lack of drop. |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: Dear Mr Shoe Company Exec I wore the Mizuno Wave Riders for several years, ending with the Wave Rider 13. When I first started wearing them, the drop was 7mm; they are now up to 12mm. They also made the14s more narrow. I stopped buying them after the 13s. I have a pair of Mizuno Precisions; they remind me somewhat of what the Wave Riders used to feel like. After trying several shoes, I switched to the Brooks Ghost for running. Love them; solid landing, nice roll and no frills pushoff. The Ghost 4 feel even better than the Ghost 3. The Brooks Glycerin 9 - they feel less firm than the previous model. I think the previous iteration - the 8 - is the better product, but I don't run in them so it's inconsequential to me. The 9s probably have a more flexible forefoot transition than the 8s did, but for walking the 8s were very comfy. The update to the Saucony Triumph - love it. The Triumph 9 now has an 8mm drop and are very comfy. I do not run in them. I walk in the Triumph 8s and thought they were a very comfy shoe. The 9s are even better, IMO. For running, however, I am sticking with the Ghost. I will be adding the NB Minimus Trail to my collection. I love that shoe, and I normally cannot wear NB shoes. |

I too have very wide feet, and have had to change brands 4 times in the past 2 years because of shoe model changes. I guess I am in the acceptance phase that when I find a good shoe I just have to enjoy it for the time I have it and then move on to a different shoe since that shoe is most likely not available anymore. And really, yes that does suck when I really sit here and think about it. |

237 | Subject: RE: Dear Mr Shoe Company Exec My solution to this problem. I do not wear the same shoes all the time. I have Asics DS trainers, cumulus, and nimbus and I rotate them. I have some challenges with my feet so it is not like I am blessed with good biomechanics. My feet are accustomed to minor changes by rotating them, so if they change the design, my feet can make that transition as well. Your mileage may vary. |

I keep them in their original boxes, and every time I run, I put tally marks for miles on the box (I have tried the online mileage trackers but if I don't do it right when I take the shoes off and put them up, then I never will.) |

Elite 7783 PEI, Canada | Subject: RE: Dear Mr Shoe Company Exec I've been using Asics Cumulus since they were 8s - I think they are up to 13 now and I've never really noticed a difference. I just buy the previous years model when I can find it on sale. So right now I have a bunch of the 12s that I got for about half of the regular list price. |
