Just got my last open water swim in my new suit before the race this Sunday.I feel ready to cross the line and now just have to do it!Going with gu and water on the 34 mile bike ride and Gatorade on the run. No fluids or gu for the last 10 miles of the bike ride.Billy- I was so close to signing up for the him in Georgia then, but it is a week before my Half marathon in Disney I already paid for.

Come on, Lou! I still don't see IMAZ 2014 on your schedule...and I can guarantee you won't be getting THAT DFL trophy...just ask Bryan.

Nutrition-wise, I go with the Infinit-only, for the bike. I add endurolytes as well, because I sweat so much and I don't want to mess with my Infinit formula. I know a number of people use one custom mix for the bike, and another for the run, but honestly, I think by the time I finish the bike, I am ready for something a bit more solid for the run. In both IMAZ  and IMFL I had a PB bagel stuffed into my cycle jersey for the run, and then after that pretty much stuck with water every aid station, perform mango/orange and grapes alternating every other aid station.  I also trained with and tried the shot bloks in IMFL to start the run, but that got old after about 3 sticks. the salt in the chicken soup (after it got dark- yes, I am slow)  helped as well.

The key is to experiment early in training to find what works best. It varies from one person to another, and probably from one season to another... just don't try to make changes when you are only 4-6 weeks out...

Ann - glad to hear you are liking your new bike.  Sometimes getting a new toy can make all the difference.

Lou - Good luck with your race this weekend, can't wait to hear how it goes.

Pam - you haven't started IMFL training?  I started IMAZ training this week, 29 weeks out and I swear my coach is trying to kill me since I took a month off.  I can barely walk.

Lena - where are you?

Pam - that makes more sense.  Lucky for you to have such a large group to train with.

Why yes Billy, I am doing Augusta.  It will be my training race for IMAZ and also I want revenge as I got a nice leg cramp on the bike back in 2011 and couldn't shake it the rest of the way.

Hi All!

Its been forever since I posted.I have been crazy busy  but I am about to settle in to some serious IMAZ training!!!!

I recently purchased a new bike. I got a Specialized Shiv. I love it. Yesterday I sold my beloved Kuota "Max" It had about 13K miles on it and needed to retire to a nice home. I sold it to a guy who just started in triathlon. He was so excited. I love my new bike. Fits beautifully.

It has finally warmed up here in Massachusetts. We had a "wicked cold" winter. I have done 3 open water swims this week. The water is about 55*. Getting my cold water IMAZ training started. Kathy all I can say about the IMAZ swim is practice as much as possible in cold water. Once you get over that "take your breath away" feeling it really isnt that bad.

I have two friends that live locally that I have coerced into doing IMAZ. They are both very fast and will push me to incresed my speed this year. It will be nice to have some people to train with locally. I am looking forward to actually doing a race with Bryan this year!!!!

I will try to post regularly Now I need to go back a ways and read more past posts!!!!!

Where is Lena????

It's so exciting to see so many of you about to start some serious training for your Ironmans.  Since I'm not doing one this year, I will live vicariously through you.

Weather has been crazy here.  It will be high 80s one day and 50s the next.  Today is one of the days in the 50s.  And WINDY!

Train smart folks.  Good luck to all who are racing this weekend.

Just stopping in to say I'm so excited to carry my first bead this weekend for Team Beads of Courage.  I'm doing the Indy mini marathon.  I have lots of reading and catching up to do on this thread.  School, family, and Lake Placid training are keeping me busy.. Imagine that! Smile

Amy I am thinking about going up to lake Placid and spectate/volunteer....perhaps sign up. I am not a great hill cyclist so still not sure.

I have been doing a lot of pretty chilly ows. Today in Hopkinton resivoir it was 58. I managed to go a mile before I had enough.

Tomorrow I will go for a nice long bike. We are having a nice Spring finally

Well I did it! The bike ride absolutely killed me. It was a 36 mile extended course and at mile 14 you got to ride the last 22 miles with a strong and I mean strong headwind. I cramped up the last 10 or so miles. Besides that it was a fun race and I'm glad I got that distance done. The rest of the summer I'm just gonna do sprints and then in 2014 gonna hit the HIM.I finished the swim respectably. Didn't walk on the run course except at the water stations to drink. So ill call that a win in my books! Also didn't finish DFL, I beat a couple of peeps. Thanks again for the support!

Congrats Lou!!  You got it done.  Sounds like you are making progress.

I have another finish line to add.  I did a small local 5K race (Ants in Your Pants 5K) and hoped that I might have a chance to place in my age group.  Although they changed the age groups from the typical 5 year span to the 10 year groupings so I was in with the 40-49 group.  I did pretty good for my fitness right now, but a 26:05 was only good for 7th place in my age group.  Guess I need to find a smaller race.

I need to order some more beads for my next couple of events.

Congratulations Lou!  It doesn't matter where you place, as long as you finished.

Briana - I liked racing in my hometown in GA as it was pretty much a given that I would place, when you only have about 20 to 30 people racing and most of them are walkers you changes were pretty good.  Now that I am in SC in a bigger city I know placing will not happen.

Fit comes out of the tall grass with another finishline to reports.  USA cycling Tour D'Bloom on Sunday. 50 miles of road racing.  Most of the time cooking at 26+ mph, max speed of 54.  Thats really fast on a bike.  Even the hills were fast.  Seriously buried myself to keep the pace on the hill climbs and into the wind.  Never a dull moment.

I did much better in this road race than in my first race in April.  Stayed sharp and with the leaders until the final 5 miles of the race and cracked.  Just could not maintain the surging 25mph pace any longer.  In retro I failed to stay on the plan for nutrition and hydration which lead to dehydration, cramps and bonking.   During the race I did not have any spare fractions of seconds to eat and drink.  Hours of racing is far to long to go without refueling.  It was super fun.

Regards,

Never forget...
DFL is better than, DNF and DNS.
Never Give Up.

Never - Unless you're injured, and sometimes not even then.
Just in case you were wondering, crawling is acknowledged and allowed in the USAT rule book.
It's hard to make course time, but it's in the rule book.
