Not all of them have lengthy descriptions but that doesn't mean I enjoyed them any less.  I have yet to read a SBR book that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed.  Also read Agassi's Open and even though it's not about SBR I loved it.

Currently reading and really enjoying Iron War, about Mike Allen's and Dave Scott's Kona war.

Born To Run - amazing book about running with awesome characters.

I'm Here To Win by Chris McCormack - I'm in the like the guy camp  He's brash, assertive, loud-spoken, a true personality.

Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run by Andy Holgate - humorous account of an everyday Ironman.

Unthinkable by Scott Rigsby - first double amputee to do Kona.

Staying the Course by Dick Beardsley - great account of his running career.

Once a Runner by John Parker.

The Long Run by Matt Long - debilitating accident, finished a marathon, my first SBR book.

Duel under the Sun - Beardsley vs. Salazar.  I devoured this book.  Two days to read it.  Convinced me that you can push yourself far enough that you will never again be the same.  It sounds like both men never fully recovered from the effort.

It's Not About The Bike - really enjoyed Lance's book

Got Ironwar and I'm Here to Win for Christmas and have finished both.

Liked Ironwar a lot.  Picked up a few things about mental toughness that I think about during every workout.

I'm Here to Win was good too.

I really enjoyed The Long Run. Its a kindle single so I guess you have to get it through amazon. About a recovered alcoholic turned ultra marathoner well written in my opinion

Not the same book, The Long Run.  I have seen the single one although have not read it.  Same title, different books and lengths.  The one by Matt Long is a full book also available through Amazon for the Kindle.

Ha can't edit post after 30 mins.

Forgot to include My First 100 Marathons by Jeff Horowitz, really captured my interest.

The Extra Mile by Pam Reed.

Heck, I didn't realize until now I had read that many lol

In addition to some of the books already mentioned, I really enjoyed:

Swimming to Antartica by Lynn Cox

The Perfect Mile by Neal Bascomb (about Roger Bannister, Wes Santee, and John Landy attempting to run a sub-4 mile.)

Running with the Buffaloes by Chris Neal (a year with Adam Goucher and the U of Colorado cross-country team)

I got an advance copy of Matt Fitzgerald's Iron War and read it in two sittings. It was absolutely captivating.

I see you mentioned "Once a Runner" by John L Parker, Jr. One of my favorite books ever. Its sequel, "Again to Carthage" is every bit as good.

I am currently reading "The Perfect Mile" which is about the quest to break the four minute mile. Certainly not as well written or entertaining as the others I recommended but good none the less.

I can't believe no one has mentioned ultramarathon man. I never ever used to read and broke the ice with that book. I went from not reading anything to finishing that book in a weekend. It was incredible.Currently on born to run.

I very much liked several books already mentioned, including Born to Run, Once a Runner, and a running with the Buffalos. I'd also add "What I Talk About, When I Talk About Running" by HAruki MuraKami.

Deb, thanks for stating this thread --- lots of great ideas for the Kindle/ audio books!

I liked "Ultramarathon Man." Dean Karnases does come off as a little egotistical, but it was an entertaining book.

I just finished this book as well. Like Once a Runner, I felt there was too little writing on the actual running part, but still a very good book.

I often use Quentin Cassidy for inspiration in workouts, even though he's fictitious!

Not a s/b/r book, but certainly one that hits on the ability to persavere and dream for your goal - Cork Boat by John Pollack.

Ditto on Once a Runner...

Only read ultra marathon man so far and it was great!! It really has a way of drawing you in, and I'm not much of a reader.
