Pre-race routine:

Couldn't sleep very good, but tried to rest in bed instead of getting up earlier than needed. Grabbed a large coffee (quit caffeine three weeks before the race, so this coffee tasted especially good!) My mom and dad, who I was staying with, made me breakfast (two eggs, two veggie sausages, some hash browns, and some toast) and helped me get ready. Then we headed to the race start picking up a friend of mine who was running the race as well.
Event warmup:

Tried to stay loose by walking around, sipping some water, and using the bathroom a few times. The event started over 30 mins late, so my nervous and heart rate were all over the place. I couldn't get my resting heart rate below three digits! But I tried to calm my mind and talk with my friend and parents.

Comments:

Run felt really good, almost the entire way. I am so proud of my time for my first marathon. I really started to break down at mile 21. The course got much less interesting (no bands, weird part of town) and there were so many racers walking and looking horrible at this point. It really played tricks on my mind and I had to repeatedly make a conscious effort to not let it affect me. I don't know if I over hydrated in the beginning of the race as I had to stop and pee twice. Overall though, I am really happy with my consistent pace throughout the entire race. Plus I was able to go at an all out sprint for the last .3 miles. I was literally flying and running as fast as I possibly could. I probably passed 20-30 people in the last section. It was fun to have the crowd go wild for me as they appreciated my sprinting out the finish. I didn't really let myself get overly emotional, instead I just plastered a huge smile on my face as I crossed the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I think I gave every ounce I had on that day.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed all the free food and crap they passed out, took of my nasty shirt, and wrapped myself in the space blankets they passed out. I enjoyed a beer and listened to the B-52s. Then hung out with my family for a while.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. There is no way I could have gone faster during this race and finish as strongly as I did. If I want to go faster for next time, I will have to get faster in training.

Course: Fairly flat throughout... slight incline the first half and slight decline the second half (except two hills at mile 23 and 25... grr!!). All asphalt streets, though I did run a sections along the street on a packed dirt shoulder (which is what I'm used to running on).

Congrats on a well executed race and holding your pace through to the end.

Now- get that hydration thing planned out better, and you could take off a few minutes of pee stops next time.  Breakfast seems a bit high on the protein- you must have a cast iron stomach.  wow.

Excellent job on your first marathon.  Your race pace was very consistent throughout, which if that was your plan is a great sign of prime training and execution!  Awesome job, congrats!
