I have a lot of these, but here is my current favorite.

"Endurance is one of the most difficult disciplines, but it is to the one who endures that the final victory comes." - Gautama Siddharta

Also, really partial to the quote in my signiture....

"You can do anything for 10 minutes." (and repeat as often as necessary during a race/hard training session)

"If it were easy, everyone would do it." (my former boss said that a lot. Stuck with me.)

"Suck it up, buttercup."

Not too poetic, but those work well for me.

I like the one in my sig line. I have never been naturally good at anything but I learned long ago that if I worked hard enough good things would happen. This applies to just abuout anything in life. I got this saying out of a fortune cookie when I was about 16 years old and taped it to my mirror where it stayed for about the next 15 years.

ps. I copied a bunch of these quotes and emailed them to my 14 and 9 year old. I hope they take some of the messages to heart one day. Great thread.

What time is it?
Right now.

Every one hurts, I just know I can take more pain than the next guy.

I think I made this one up...."Why not me?"

My mom used to say that all of the time. While she was battling cancer, she was often asked, "do you ever ask, 'why me'?" To which she would always answer, "why NOT me"? That stuck with me. I pull it out in those times when I'm feeling particularly sorry for myself.

When pain is at its max, when your legs are screaming with each stride, when your energy is all depleted,  when your brain is telling you that there is no possible way you can make it to the finish-line and now it's time to quit....you reach deep within and find a place in you that you never knew existed, a place of inner strength to keep on going. At that moment of discovery a triathlete is born. Hunter Romero (me

Great stuff here!  Sometimes I wish we had a "like" button.

Something i've been using recently

My competition during endurance races is not against the individual competitors.  Its against the clock.  Its against the pain.  Its against the nagging doubts in my head, and the little voice telling me it'd just be easier to take up golf. - dsand97

Heard this one on the track one morning...

"That pain you feel deep in your lugs as you see the finish line, is the guy behind you telling you to quit."

You can be cold, hungry, tired, grumpy, or just ticked. It doesn't matter. Just keep moving and you'll get there eventually. -unknown
