joncolbybohnsack - 2012-05-04 10:02 PM Wow, they really changed the course a lot. http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/82045663/[/QUOTE]

Yep.  We did 90% of that today, but not all in the same direction(s) as the new route.  I think I will certainly be back next weekend to do the new route.

Everyone is talking about that hill and not too happy about. Is it that bad. Is it worse than the SMP hill after the dam?

We rode it a couple of weeks ago, it's changed from what I remember but it's nothing terrible. There's one decent hill but definitely not a heart stopper. Probably comparable to the smp hill, but not as bad as WYCo lake. The rest of the course was nice and has decent roads.

Well crap, disregard that last post, I just saw the new course. We rode the old course a couple weeks ago. THAT hill (twice) might suck a bit.

TriMan25 - 2012-05-03 10:56 PM I be at Longview on the Sat before Mothers Day . . .

I can do that on Saturday the 12th.  I will be driving in from Topeka.  Would 10:00 work, or do you want to get started earlier?  I might be able to make it in earlier for a quick wetsuit swim, too.  Maybe 9:00 for a swim and 9:30 or 10:00 for a bike?  being a week before the event a short swim, one loop of the bike, and one loop of the run might be a good workout.

Reece?  Jon?  Mark?  Anyone else?

I would be interested, but it would have to be pushed back a bit later, as I'm Graduating that morning.  I could probably due Noon at the earliest, but don't make plans around me!

actually rode THAT hill last weekend as well as the 2011 course and it's a bear but still quite tolerable: 170' vertical in .68 miles is ~5% grade vs 177' in 1.13 miles ~3% grade from the 2011 course direction.  THAT hill is also part of the Jackson County tri.

Last year there were just over 600 finishers between the sprint and olympic (per onlineraceresults.com) , I've heard that there are 1200 people signed up this year, the course is supposed to be fully closed to traffic so 2 lanes in each direction will be very nice for the sprint and the second lap of the oly.

Hills separate the men/women from the boys/girls!I would be more worried about a strong north or south wind with gusts at 30! Raytown road runs north/south and it is the longest stretch of the course.

so- we talking about a group going out at 10 am on Saturday?  Ride a couple loops and run 1?  Anyone know if the transition area will be open (beach area) or if we need to park in the marina and start there?

If I make it, it will be a Saturday morning decision.  Please let me know if a group of one or more will be there so I don't make a trip in and nobody is there.

Thanks!

Most people turn off Ratown road at Pittenger Rd toward the transition/swim beach parking (which is usually blocked this time of year), take the 1st left, then the next right to the 1st parking area closest to the beach. You can do your ride from there and when finished easily hope on the trail for your run.

BTW the bathrooms were still locked last week.

Yeah, you might lose your voice after the bike ride having to say "on your left" so many times. Do they make a horm that when squeezed, makes the sound "on you left"?

Hey, the good news is that with all those people on the course you might get a little draft action.
