Sounds to me like it's simply a fancy way to say that your heart placement is left of where "normal" is...... but don't hold me to that.....

Not quite.  It means that the sum of the electrical activity of your heart is more leftward than "normal".  Lots of things cause this, but an enlarged left ventricle is most common.

Not quite. It means that the sum of the electrical activity of your heart is more leftward than "normal". Lots of things cause this, but an enlarged left ventricle is most common.

And can be caused by an "athletic heart", but can also be due to other things that are not as healthy.

Why do you ask?

The doctor heard a tick and the ECG computer printed left cardiac axis deviation. She wanted to rule out anything serious. Thanks. Athletic heart? Rest of the physical was right on the money.

PS Maybe stress from Mt Everett ranting.

Ok, let's talk cardiology!  I had enlargement of my left ventricle (left ventricular hypertrophy) as the result of a congenital bicuspid aortic valve.  Not a good thing.   Fortunately in my case the enlargement reversed itself within a year after I had the bicuspid valve replaced with a St. Jude mechanical aortic valve.  I'll always have an abnormal EKG (inverted T wave) as a result of having the mechanical valve (the normal firing pulses of the heart are confused by the mechanical valve being there).

I learned all this interesting stuff the hard way and have some nice scars to show for it.  My obvious advise would be to have any abnormal cardiac condition checked out by your PCP or cardiologist.  Many serious conditions can be asymptomatic until it's too late.
