Subject: Wetsuits for big guys?
Hi folks,

I'm using the posts on this board to convince my wife that I *need* a wetsuit for our Vermont swims. Right now the lake temperatures are between 56 and 59. In shopping around for some wetsuits, I have had a hard time finding something that would fit. What are the other big guys wearing here?

Stats:

6'5"
265 pounds
38" waist
50" chest

Thanks!

I don't know for sure about suits for you guys, but ProMotion had some great suits and a larger range of sizes. www.wetsuits.com

If you want to try it out first then I know of a place in NH that will fit you.

Thanks folks!

I have sent an email to www.websuits.com asking about their sizes. They list the bigger sizes in their sizing charts, but don't have the XXXL size listed for any of the suits on the catalogue.

I'm actually travelling from Vermont to Maine this weekend, if you wish, send me a PM with the location of the place that does the fittings.

Thanks!

My husband is 6'8" and about 215, and he's really had trouble finding wetsuits that fit. For scuba, the only ones that were long enough were made for guys who were tall AND big, if you see what I mean. Andy could've been 8 months pregnant and still fit in those suits. The tri suits seem to be cut a little narrower, I suppose because they're meant for endurance athletes. The makers also seem to be more into custom fit, which is nice. You're definitely right that you need a wetsuit for water temps in the 50s. Let us know what you find in big/tall sizes!

Call them and talk to them. I was going to order a much larger size and they talked me down..... They were very helpful, and my suit fits perfectly. I feel so svelte in the smaller numbered size!!!

I did a little research on this for a thread about a month or so ago.

Here it is:

was a size XXXL. Fit nice, I'm 40 in waist, 54 chest. Don't count the belly in between.
Anyway, was a sleeveless, but had full legs. Was a bit chilled at first with the water on the
shoulders, but I liked having that freedom of movement. Got chaffed on the back of the
neck, but was my first time wearing one so I might have done something wrong.
Call 'em and talk to them. See if you can return one that doesn't fit.

Thanks folks! That wetsuit thread was great. I had searched for something like that, but must have missed that one. I've got a call into www.wetsuit.com and I'll see if they can get me into an XXL or what they have in stock for an XXXL. There is also a place in NH I might stop by on a drive to Maine this weekend.

Thanks!

I did some research on custom suits for my kayakng and there are several custom shops but I dont know if they will work in the small thicknesses found in tri wet suits

I will go thru my notes to see if I can post some info..... it was pricey but not outrageous compared to mainstream cost I have seen...........I am in the xxxl zone but I am hoping that I can pare that down by next years season when I have set my long yerm goal of entering my first tri (sprint).
