Had my first indoor pool clash with other swimmer last night

I love crazy pool stories......I can't wait to have one...my pool must be lame, I never see any altercations or problems.

Instead of asking her to move into the other lane because people pause more there might have better been replaced with concern that it would be safer for her in the other lane.  I assume she was new to the whole lap swimming thing and people generally are a little stressed about new environments.

At any rate, her reaction was totally over the edge.  If someone intentionally kicked me I'd be in the lifeguards and/or managements face to have that person removed.  From what you describe it does not sound she "accidentally" kicked you while swimming but stood there and struck you.  I would not accept being assaulted.  

I've adopted a policy of never making suggestions such as 'move to the next lane' at the pool, even if the advice is self-evidently correct.  It never leads to a good place.  In your case, I'd have just kept swimming.  People usually get the message pretty quickly.

Interesting that she complained to a lifeguard after assaulting you...

I was 'jumped on' by another swimmer because I would touch his toes before passing. I ended up giving him the 'shawinigan handshake' in self defense (google it). It was invented by our prime minister.

I have learned the best thing to do is speak to the lifeguard first, explain to them and let them explain to the other person. Works out well. May I also suggest bringing coffee to the morning lifeguards.

Indeed!  After I saw her complaining, I think she left.  Lifeguard felt bad about the kick but said they can't do much about swimmers who interfere in lanes the way they do sometimes.  I was assured next time she kicks me she will be asked to leave the swim area.

If she kicks you again.....hit her with your purse!!

You should have flopped like a soccer player on the pool deck, clutching your leg.  

or, more realistically, I would have called over life guard asap, asked her to explain to the lifeguard why she kicked you.  Then waved as the lifeguard escorted her out.  There is no way the LG would allow a swimmer to stay no matter how comical the kick may have been.  She still kicked you and action like that should have consequences, even if it's being removed for the day.

She kicked you??  I mean, she really kicked you??  That is awesome.  I've seen some issues arise at my pool too.  Most of the time, it's not my fault... most of the time. 

There is one guy that always shows up and demands to share a lane when the lanes are full.  He is also the same guy that will Never offer to share a lane when it's his turn to return the favor.  Gotta love that. Oh, and he's a middle of the lane directly over the black line kind of lane sharer guy.

I had an altercation with a swimmer about a year ago.  Head on collision rolling along pretty fast too.  1:25 ish per hundred yards doing repeat 300s.   I was so irritated at this idiot.  I preceded to scream at her "What are you f-ing blind?!?!?"   I swear on the life of my three boys this is what she said:  "Yep, since birth.  Thanks a-hole".

Needless to say, she owns me now.  We laugh about it when we "see" each other.  She likes to ask me for small favors like grabbing a kick board or and extra towel.  She gets no resistance from me. 

I just wonder how long I should accept her "pool bit~h" status.

How much force can you really put on a kick that's under the water?

Where I used to swim, the deep end was 8ft.  There were times when I had to share a lane when I would pass people UNDER the water.  I can't do that at my current pool as it's only 5ft deep.  Luckily, at most all I need to do is share.  When I go, it's not that crowded.

And I too want to do a race where 1:45 is fast.  I'm pretty sure I could podium at that one.

Think of it as OWS training.

every time i read these pool stories, it really reinforces how boring and uneventful my pool is. Nobody ever does anything uncivil.

Did you watch any water polo during the Olympics?

Yeah, I hate it when people do things that are different than what I'm doing. So annoying. Especially if they are old.
