The old women who get in the pool and just bob up and down. They come in packs usually, 6 or 8 of them and they get in the lane nearest to the locker rooms (the pool at my gym is only three lanes wide). They start their bobbing up and down crap and get the water so choppy you can't hardly swim and if you so much as stop for a second to adjust your goggles or anything, they come under the rope into your lane. Yeah, I hate it when people do things that are different than what I'm doing. So annoying. Especially if they are old. You forgot fat. |

There is no way on this earth that someone intentionally kicks me in the pool and I don't march directly to the lifeguard and/or management. This isn't an "oops, I was swimming and I got too close" kick, this was intent to do bodily harm. I'm glad you went to the lifeguard. You're a more forgiving person than I. |

I stopped reading after this. Good to know I'm pretty fast, 'cause I feel pretty slow. +1 |

Well, being one that is old and fat, I have no room to talk, but I don't mind the bobbers. I just consider it OWS training. Also if the lady comes back in the lane, just tell her you just peed right where she is... |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Had my first indoor pool clash with other swimmer last night Grumpy women... I used to play on women's soccer team and things got out of hand a few times with another player grabbing one of our players hair and kicking her so hard she had a bruise on her chest. We were all so surprised none of us knew what to do, we walked off the field. In thinking about it we all agreed if it happened again we'd call the police. My best clash in the pool was when I was splitting a lane with a women, and we swam to close to each other and my hand went down her swim suit top and I scratched her neck and chest. She was a sport about it and we ended up having a nice chat. |

Expert 1130 Fernandina Beach, FL | Subject: RE: Had my first indoor pool clash with other swimmer last night Thank you for this story. I consider myself lucky. At the local Y I swim at I pretty much have free range of the swim lanes. Most the swimmers are senior citizens and after swimming there a few months have made it a point to move lanes when I get there (with never having asked them to ever). The only problem I have is with one older woman who has asked me several times to not flip turn because "I'm getting her things wet". I politely explain to her how absurd that request is and continue on my way. When I was swimming 3-4 days a week this would happen once a week. Now it's once a month but still funny every time. |

I like to refer to them as aqua nazis. You should be thanking her for prepping you for an IM mass swim start. |

Champion 7595 Columbia, South Carolina | Subject: RE: Had my first indoor pool clash with other swimmer last night FoggyGoggles - 2012-08-15 5:04 PM Is it really assault if she kicked him underwater? I mean, it would have happened so slow the OP could have had a cup of tea and then stepped out of the way. Technically, yes, it is. A stupid, ineffective, assault is still an assault (though I was using the term half-jokingly for the very reason you give). I'd guess that actual prosecution would be very unlikely, but if I were a lifeguard and witnessed what OP describes, the offender would have to go to 'time-out' with the 7-year olds who run on the pool deck. |

Veteran 2297 Great White North | Subject: RE: Had my first indoor pool clash with other swimmer last night I wouldn't take that crap. I usually climb out and drag the lane swim etiquette sandwich board over to my lane and into to the part that says slow swimmers need to mover to a slower lane, faster swimmers to the fast lane, etc. I swim around 1:15/100m Cruz and 1:05/100m on pace work and faster for sprints. Needless to say I get my own lane quite often just on the intimidation factor (funny thing is I'm way more cognizant of where my lane mates are than anyone else who'swims there). And yes not sound like a bragging that's 1;05 per 100 metres. |

Again, they look and at least for a minute, i look serious and like a "real" swimmer, so they go to another lane with a fellow old lady in it. Works every time. |

X2. Intimidation in the pool?? Now biking and running, I believe. But in the pool?

631 | Subject: RE: Had my first indoor pool clash with other swimmer last night My pool goes from 3.5 feet to 12 feet the drop off is pretty much in the middle. This keeps the bobber and walkers out of the lanes. We do get the side/back stroke frog kickers it is hard to share a lane with them because the take up a lot of room and they can't usually see where they are going.

Extreme Veteran 555 Carrollton, TX | Subject: RE: Had my first indoor pool clash with other swimmer last night I had a collision a few months ago when a couple got in the lane next to me and started circle swimming INTO MY LANE. Perhaps that is normal at other pools (and I know it is practiced during organized group swim workouts), but I've never seen it in the 5+ years I've been lap swimming at any of the gym pools in the D/FW area. |
