It wouldn't impact my vote one way or another.  However, I can imagine it would cost him some votes, so probably one of those activities best postponed until after the political career.

In the grand scheme of things I think, in general, in my head I say there are so many bigger things to worry about. But....

I do find it interesting that many folks have the "hey its your life" attitude.  I for one DO think that an elected official SHOULD be held to a higher standard.  Even these stupid little things are a reflection on all of us.  He did get elected to represent his congressional district, and he was on the vacation (oops I mean educational mission) in his elected capacity.

who determines what that standard is?  where is the line between ok behavior and bad?  i figured the law is a clear line.  abusing power or money given to you as an elected is a line.  skinny dipping?  doesn't really cross either of those.

I had this same question and thought process.

Honestly I have no real real issue with this as I sort of mentioned in my original post. I really couldn't care less about this stupid incident with all the real problems going on right now.  So that said I don't know any of the particulars about the incident.

However to the point of a "higher standard" and using "legal" as the measure, I pose this to you...

Bill Clinton, President of the U.S. has sexual encounters in the Oval Office with an intern half his age, then goes on national television and vehemently denies it ("I did not have sexual relations with that woman").  Did he do anything illegal?  Do you think what he did was 'wrong'? Are you OK with your elected president acting like this?  Do you think that this is an acceptable behavior, or does it cross the line?

Different situation, different political positions, but a good example of my point nonetheless.

I say good for him as long as what he did was not violating any local laws or disrespected any local groups.

No big deal.

That said, I'd expect his pole numbers to decline if the water was too cold!   ...btw, I'm a very good speller.

A - A euphemism for something inappropriate. Were there hookers and blow?

Illegal doesn't necessarily mean inappropriate.

This gets even more gray area than most.

Many of the most famous nude beaches in the world are not technically legal.

There are some areas where nudity is explicitly prohibited. (Los Angeles County for example).

There are some where the prohibition is based off of lewdity of conduct, not the state of undress.

There are some where nudity is protected is it is non-sexual.

However, there are many where they may be technically illegal, but officially - unofficially sanctioned...

See the Cahill Policy for CA State Beaches (in effect for decades until the administration that just got canned for hiding millions decided to change it).

So, there are beaches where the books say it is not legal, where police and lifeguards have an express policy to not harass skinny-dippers.

Maybe we should not have fired the Secret Service guys who were taking advantage of legal prostitution in Colombia?

Legality isn't always the issue.  When you do something that makes your boss look bad, you usually pay the price.  Congressmen don't really have a boss (other than the voters) but they do rely on their party for support.  Someone like the majority leader might be sufficiently irritated to remove him from committees or take other measures.

Wait.....you can't skinny dip and be elected to office?  It's official, I'm out of the running.  So is my wife and, if I have anything to say about it, my kids will never be eligible either.  Skinny dipping should be protected by the constitution.

This has all become so dumb.

Isn't that what you sign up for when you become a politician?

I dont have a problem with this at all but i see how it has become somewhat of an issue.

By accounts of the investigation, the guy got naked in front of two female staffers.  I don't know if congress has an HR department, but that would be a big no no in any company.

Second thing, the Sea of Galilee has a significant meaning for most christians, so i can see a few of them upset over their christian congressman (assuming that he is)  jumping naked partying where allegedly Jesus walked on water.

I can understand this and I would agree with it but I would be more concerned if it was offending the locals more than people back home.  When you are in someone's house I believe you should respect there traditions.  If the sea of Galilee is scared to the locals then I would not do it.

Yes, if this is true, then I believe there should be repercussions.

Could really care less. I worry about other things they do that we never hear about.

Was going to make a comment about him screwing the voters anyway. Guess he did in the end.

Has anyone stopped to think that maybe, just maybe, he was trying to save the taxpayers money by not destroying an expensive suit that he would then expense out?

I don't believe it either but you have to admit it is a creative spin.

I just don't see where the issue is. I don't know why nudity is still so taboo.

To me when the media starts talking about non-sexual nudity it just means it's a slow news day. Just like when some american actress sunbathes topless in Ibiza, then it's "Topless Beach Scandal!"

It definitely feels like this is more of a stripping down drunk at an office party situation versus a let's meet at a spa or similar place where nudity is more in the norm.

It doesn't seem to have been in keeping with local customs and he was representing the US abroad, so I think it was a lapse in judgement. If I liked his policies in general, it might not affect how I vote.

Had they been at a private or social function at an appropriate place (a private cabin on a lake, Burning Man....) sure - have a great time!
