Subject: I am unbelievably angry at a fellow IM-er

In a recent local Century, I was riding along.  An older (55-60) year old was riding near me and we traded places several times.  The reason that he was so recognizable was that on his left calf, he had four IM Tatts, each in the color of the country that hosted the race.  On his right, a World Championship Tatt.

I called out "passing" several times, but he couldn't hear me because of his headphones.  Strike #1.

Then, as we went into a small town that I cycle through regularly, I stopped at a stopsign BEHIND a teenage driver in a souped up 'Stang.  Who goes around us to the left and blows through the stop sign?  "Mr. earphone, multi-national IM".  And there are other cars around. Stopped at their stop signs in this 3-way intersection.  Oh, there must be special laws for you!

The issue is, Mr. Mult-Tatt is not a regular rider in my 'hood.  He won't have to deal with the drivers who now have another example of "those friggin' bikes!  Nope, I will.  And I already get buzzed about twice a month.  Now there are three more motorists that probably hate my butt for just sitting on a bike like him.

(Note: Karma is a sonofa beach!  My wife told me that she saw him later in the ride, missing a turn.  She yelled to him, but ALAS, HE IS WEARING HEADPHONES and didn't hear her. Later turkey!)

That is annoying and you're right. That doesn't help the stereotype of us cyclists.

The dude has "special laws" love it.  Yeah, we who respect road signs and ride carefully do pay unnecessarily for idiots who ride with headphones and blow through stop signs.

No, what the motorists saw was a cyclist stop and follow the laws, and then DB not follow them. It is much more important YOU stopped and showed what YOU were about..... but ya, totally irritating.

Meh.

What can you do? Other than physically grabbing him and getting in his face, not much. There are jackasses everywhere. You let him interfere with your enjoyment of a century ride.

Eventually riding habits like that will pay unpleasant dividends.

I know the guy you are talking about. He rides on the RBC rides. He is from Europe and doesn't quite get social cues either(he is quite theske chauvinist, having had out his hand on my friends butt while we were biking. He tried to get onto our team and got rejected. I can tell you more stories

I don't really care one way or the other, but if ya want to know his name, address, phone number, date of birth, number of IM's and which one's he's done, you could probably have it by noon on Tuesday, it being a Holiday weekend and all. That would be the only reason I could think of.

He doesn't deserve that much attention. I'm not sure how he even got into Kona...he's not a very good cyclist. He also used to bike by me making kissy faces and saying "I love u". I just found the whole thing comical. But the riding in headphones and that he'd use aero bars in group rides-> dangerous and poor form.
