Regular 85 Augusta, Ga | Subject: RE: Strange question about cycling and umm...male problems Ok here is the husband. The issue is not that I am worried about sterility, which in fact would be a good thing in my case as I already have three wonderful children. The issue is E.D. I would not even have listened to my parents if not for the fact that I do experience numbness in the area while riding. This has never been a problem with riding any other bike. So when the parents mentioned the 20/20 segment I began to look on line for answers. There has been no real scientific evidence in regards to the relationship or proving it either way. I am going to try adjusting the seat to see if this relieves the problem. Thank you all for the posts. |

I get numb in unmentionable spots during long rides but the feeling comes back quickly. I'm getting a new saddle to alleviate the problem. |

Subject: RE: Strange question about cycling and umm...male problems Welcome Freddy! Heck, in what other forum would your first poost be about numb man parts? Yes, numbness is bad. No, I don't think most of us get numb there. I have on occasion, but not since I got a better seat and a bit of a bike fit. Your wife mentioned the bike was new. Did you get a fitting? That's question #1. |

Master 2060 Northern California | Subject: RE: Strange question about cycling and umm...male problems Rollin' Thunder - 2006-06-20 10:14 AM I ride quite a bit and I don't have performance issues at all. Of course, my maternal grandpa is where the sex drive in our family comes from -- he was legendary. When he died and my brothers and I were cleaning up his house for the wake, etc. we found a receipt in his nightstand for condoms from two weeks before he died. He was 86 years old and very, very single. Mike So, he was um, dating much younger women? Thus the need for condoms? 'Cause if he was hooking up with 73-year old Mrs. Appleby across the condo complex, she is in no danger of conceiving. |

If not then get some, makes a world of difference. |

Champion 10668 Tacoma, Washington | Subject: RE: Strange question about cycling and umm...male problems In 25 years of cycling for both triathlon and competetive bike racing, I've never had a problem. If the bike fits right, and you've got the right saddle, there are no problems. |

Expert 1113 Las Vegas | Subject: RE: Strange question about cycling and umm...male problems I used to get numb down there in manville, but once I adjusted the seat angle, it went away. No more numbness, no more walking around waiting for the boys to wake up. At this point, Ive had my children, but It was never something that I was concerned about. |

I think the primary reason was not pregnancy prevention, but keeping the fishing tackle clean...if you know what I mean. Mike |

Contacted for this article, each said that while it is possible for male cyclists to damage the sexual apparatus in an accident -- especially by smashing the crotch against the top tube, the horizontal bar between the seat and the handlebars -- the chances of doing lingering damage by just sitting tight and pedaling are very low. How much of an impact are we talking here? |

Giver 18427 | Subject: RE: Strange question about cycling and umm...male problems Proper bike fit is important. If you haven't had a prefessional fitting, that's where I'd start. Secondly, make sure you've got a good pair of bike shorts. There's a reason for the chamois. If neither of those things work, look at different saddles. There are lots of cut-out models that redistribute pressure off of the perineum and onto the sit bones. One or a combination of those three things should fix the problem. |
