Sad day all around. Also in China a man went into a primary school and stabbed 22 children. Some people are just sick and diranged. Prayers for all of the families who have been struck by these horrible tragities.

Holy sh*t. What a horrific thing. Shooter is reportedly a 20 year old guy, now dead.

Honestly, WTF???? Gut wreching horrible, awful, unfathomable.  I want to puke.

Yep, all of this. I'm feeling a little irrational and ready to go get my son from his school even though we live no where near this incident. I don't know how these kids will ever feel safe going back to school again.

My baby is in daycare and I feel the same way.  My heart breaks for the parents and children.  I cannot imagine.  Sometimes the thought of sending my daughter to school terrifies me.

"Twenty-two elementary school students were stabbed, so was an adult villager" but none of the victims died, the official, who declined to give his name, told AFP.

Updated at 1 p.m. ET: Twenty-six people were killed, including 18 children, when a gunman opened fire in a Connecticut elementary school Friday morning, a law enforcement official said.

The gunman, who is dead, was a 20-year-old from Connecticut, an official said. He was wearing all black and was carrying two 9mm handguns.

Terrible.  Are there any safe places left?

I had the same reaction when I first heard.  I want to go get them out of school and take them home.

For F's sake, can we just take a moment and chill for a bit on the gun debate and try to send some prayers to those families that LOST THEIR FREAKING CHILDREN during the holidays?

I don't have kids and I am about as far geographically in the continental US and I am absolutely heartbroken over this

Yep, my hubby is also the school admin so half of my family is in the building every day. Next year my daughter will start K. It's really sad that I have these flashes of a crazy person wiping out my family at a place they should be safe.

I really can't stand this story.

I agree 100%....this is not the thread for it.  I just heard a report that as many as 20 may be dead in that school.  I hope not.

My baby is 16 and I can't wait to give him a hug when he gets home from school. I can't even imagine the heartbreak the families are going through.

This is awful. I have a 15 month old and I can barely stand to listen to the news right now. I can't imagine the horror and pain the families of those with children at the school are feeling.

As a mom I just can't wrap my head around this.  The poor families and other children.

I think as a society we have become way too accepting of violence.  TV, Movies, News, Video Games.  The images that are now in prime time shows are imo not healthy to look at on a regular basis.  Even the rate at which news hits us is crazy.

In Denver last night:

http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_22189339/denver-police-search-assailants-who-lit-woman-fire

Interesting in the comments a similar thing was done recently on a TV show.

Those poor babies.

"It is unclear if there was more than one gunman at the school. Miller reports authorities have an individual in custody who investigators said may be a possible second shooter."

This makes NO sense to me.  Not that Columbine or other shooting make "sense".  But they were peers shooting peers.

This is an "adult" killing harmless, absolutely defenseless,  and innocent kids.  It's pure insanity and evil and absolutely sickening.

I hope the nation, no matter what side you are on in the debate, can join together and give support to the families and Connecticut.

At least 18 children are among the dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, the Associated Press reported.

State police spokesman Paul Vance said the gunman died at the scene - but would not confirm the number of deaths.

today is my daughter's 3yo birthday.  This is gutting me.  I'm so glad she is home with her grandma- but I just want to leave and go hug her...

I just can't fathom how horrible this is.  Christmas presents wrapped under the tree and no kid will ever come home to open them.

I didn't get it 30 years ago when that guy opened fire on that playground. I don't get it now. I never will. Thoughts and prayers.

You have to be mentally deranged beyond anything we can imagine (or evil) to think that this is justifiable. Children, kindergardeners, as targets?

I just don't have words.

I agree.

I am literally in tears watching the coverage on t.v.  My heart aches for the parents that have lost their babies.

Just heard that the shooter's mother worked at the school.  Obviously this db had issues, but why the fu** did he have to kill children?.  May he rot in he!!.

Just woken up Nd read this. Horrific news indeed. There is nothing worse than losing a child. Thoughts are with their families and the poor kids left traumatised by this event. RIP little ones

Wish they would cover it like this guys says to.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PezlFNTGWv4

"If you don't want to propagate more mass murders...

Don't start the story with sirens blaring.
...

Don't have photographs of the killer.

Don't make this 24/7 coverage.

Do everything you can not to make the body count the lead story.

Not to make the killer some kind of anti-hero.

Do localise this story to the affected community and as boring as possible in every other market. "
