Still rabbit on a bit I see............

FROGGY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Were your ears burning???  How goes it?

Ahhh...so this is THE Froggy from recent discussion? lol

Indeed. Don't believe everything you read, just most of it. A warmer, kinder and more sarcastic triathlete, you will never find. Well perhaps you will find someone warmer, and probably someone kinder, but definately not more sarcastic!!

Clean as a whistle for near on six months. Training hs been dire due to the weather and my wimpy attitude.

Will be hitting the tarmac for my first race on Sunday- the Lincoln 10k race.

Had to give my 'race' bike back but i am currently testing a cannondale from my LBS in preparation for my upcoming sprints, oly distance and HIM scheduled for August.

Any chance you can squeeze a little one back in. I come bearing pop tarts, melon hugs and a decent race card for this year!!!

I can't believe it - a frog sighting! BTW, not quite sure how you're going to manage the melon hugs, but I will be watching closely!

It's interesting to me when old pod members come back from a hiatus.  Like, oh, yeah, this group's been around for longer than the three months I've been in it.

Welcome back froggy!

jobaxas - 2013-04-03 2:35 PM First interaction I can't recall... I've met Yanti NigelW Bond girl and swayerm (Jess) and I feel like we've met! I interact with a few others take advice from marvarnett (dan) Best advice I got was from him (dan) about pulling out of ironman he truly helped me thru that process.I love the manatees and our social interactions and I'd like to travel the states and meet you all. Person I miss most ukweeble :(

X2!!! Do we know where our dear froggy has hopped off to?  Such a great British sense of humor on that one, and always ready to hurry the frog up!

I don't remember who I first interacted with on BT.  I joined in December 2011 after I decided to become a "triathlete" (and I remember a convo some months back about being worthy to call yourself that - I said that if you are doing all three sports, go ahead and give yourself the title!)  I was poking around the forums and saw mentor forums, so I thought it would be good to join, being a total newb.  I checked out a couple and the saw Yanti & Salty's Mad Manatees - sounded like a bunch of weirdos to me (I didn't know the half of it!).  But like others have said, they seemed active and, let's be honest, I too am a big old weirdo and haha - I fit right in   We had a really awesome group winter 2012, and many of that group are still kickin' it here.  And those who have joined since are all super cool too.  I'm going to credit our oh-so-wise and worldly mentors for the good vibes

I haven't met any BTers yet, but, as Salty said, we are going to meet next week!! (Which reminds me, we've got to figure out day/time!

Best advice is probably from Salty.  I was complaining of not having motivation to go for a run, and she said you never regret doing a workout.  Although I still skip workouts in favor of TV and snacks, there are more times now that I think to that feeling of finishing a tough workout and it gets me out the door.  Thanks Salty!!  And, of course, the best stories are from Yanti.  I'd like to meet her in person soooo much, primarily to confirm she actually exists.  I'm starting to think she is make believe.

OMG - was that a Salty original?

I remember a long time ago reading a very similar quote.. "I have never regretted doing a workout, but I have regretted not doing one".. Was that you Salty?  I have been trying to figure out who posted that advice for about a year now!

Did my last tough track workout last night! Yaaaaaaaaaaay!

My training partner and I and JUST different enough that I needed my own timing device to complete my workout (as the rest of the group was doing a different, non-marathon specific workout) Anyway, I forgot a watch so I had to carry my phone and use the stopwatch function lol fun stuff ....

Anyway, the workout was supposed to be 8 x 800 @ 3:08 (so, that's a 6:16 pace for all you no-mathy peeps) with limited recovery (2:00 running in the turf)

Here were my splits:

8 x 800:
3:08
3:08
3:05
3:00
3:05
3:05
3:06
3:00

Then got a nice pep talk from our coach. I told him I fly in Monday and he thought I meant marathon Monday and was about to lose his sh*t.

That's just sick.

Is your training partner also running Boston?

Yes she is!

And this is so funny, or at least to me:

So, I don't know if any of you have spent much time around track/XC girls but oddly I have been friends with lots of them throughout my life (why I didn't run earlier, I have NO idea) Anyway, they all tend to have a certain personality type (obviously I am stereotyping a little.) Just very ... sweet people usually, without getting into too much detail. Anyway, Andie is the same way. Just really really nice and sweet, kind of soft spoken etc. Kind of the opposite of how I see myself. I am a lot more uh ... rough around the edges and curse too much, etc. So I always feel a little a little self conscious when we are warming up and try to tone it down a bit.

Anyway, we get into talking about how we got into running. And in her sweet, innocent soft spoken voice she tells me that she was a competitive motorcycle racer and was asked to quit (by her pleading husband) after going into a guard rail at 160+ MPH! HA! I was not expecting that!

Wait - Andie is married?

Well, I survived the half.  It was really a training run (not for any other race in particular, but when you run 3 long runs before hand and pretty much nothing during the week, you just go ahead and call this a "training run."  Training my mind to keep going when legs say stop?) and given my lack of preparation plus the very hilly terrain, I was aiming to just keep running the whole time and not hurt myself.  It ended up finishing on 5 minutes slower than my best time (although, admittedly, I have never "raced" a half because I'm afraid of using up all my energy before the end of the race - need to work on that) and I'm not too worse for wear today.  My knees hurt from the downhills and my quads are a little sore, but not as bad I feared.  At the finish yesterday I could barely walk!  My legs honestly felt like they had done a full marathon, not just half way.  I'll work on getting the race report in, but that's the long and short of it.  Oh, and my post-race firecracker wings and cajun fries were AMAZING!!!  They taste better when you've earned them.
