Subject: RE: point to point swim race format ? Most of the point to point swims I've done have been ferry starts where they bus us from transition to the boat, take us out onto the lake or bay, and we swim back to the shore right next to the transition area. One time I ran into a situation where weather/water conditions changed on race morning, and we had to walk a mile down a beach to the swim start. That was a weird situation however. In any case they usually set it up so T1 is minimized. The only possible exception is Alcatraz where it's a 1/2 mile "warmup" run on asphalt to T1. There they let you have a pre-T1 bag at the swim exit where you can get your wetsuit off, put on a pair of running shoes, and run to your bike rack. Even there many people choose to go barefoot or run in wetsuit booties to save the time. -Harry |
