If I have to shift a long run to a weekday, a 3:30am start time is pretty typical. That would probably be a 3:00am wake time. I'm usually up by 4:00am on any given day anyway.

I got up at 4:06 the morning of my Ironman race, does that count?

Seriously, I've often thought if I had young kids or a busy personal/social life, or a super time demanding job, I'd never do triathlon. I can workout during lunch, don't have anywhere in particular to be most evenings, and have hours on end over the weekend to swim/bike/run.

Nothing crazy.  I work til 7pm most days and once in while on days that I bike commute I may turn the 13 mile ride home into longer so I'm out riding until 9 or 10pm.

I got up at 8:00 in the morning on a Saturday once for a long run.  Seriously, I am not a morning person and prefer to train in the early evening when I get off work.  I would like to be able to take advantage of the quiet morning hours but I am not wired that way.  My hat is off to those that can do that.

I usually go to the velodrome on Wednesday and Friday evenings in the fall, winter and early spring. Friday nights there is racing for A,B,C groups with each group getting at least 3 races starting at 7pm, so it can be done anywhere between 8:30pm-10pm depending on the races. Often times I ride home after that which takes about 45 minutes, and sometimes we stop for food on the way home, so it isn't unusual for me to be riding at 11pm.

I don't really do early mornings though.

I like sleep, so my worst workout was many years ago.  10PM to 2AM run.  Pushed it too hard, had a terrible crash, brought on a nasty case of tendonitis in my right big toe AND got pulled over afterwards for having a the light out on my licence plate (probably wondering what kind of trouble I was getting into at 2am in the park).  30 minutes of pure sugar crash while they ran my licence.

I also do my training rides in the very early morning (but on a trainer). This week I plan on getting up a 2:15 to finish my 4 hr ride before the kids get up. I'm a morning person anyway so getting up is not a big deal. Most days of the week I'm up around 4AM.

A few years a go my wife had to leave at 7AM to go into work on a Sunday morning from a special project.  Since I had a LR scheduled and had to be back for the kids I ran 20 miles at 3:30 on a Sunday morning.  There was no one on the road, I felt like I was in the movie "28 Days Later" where everyone was either dead or left the city.

Mrbbrad your lifestyle and spare time is something I long for, I struggle to squeeze evening/ weekend training sessions in full stop. I'd love to be able to get up one Saturday and think ... " what can I do today".

I envy you!

I work nights and am up for a trainer ride at 4am with my wife. So I get about 3.5 hours of sleep. Then I shower, go to bed, get the boy off to school do another workout and take a small nap again before work.

I use to work graveyard shift and would come home and run each day. The get the boy to school, go to bed or swim then bed, get up and do a ride and run. Then be ready for the fam to be home for the night. I liked those days.

Not as crazy as some but I'll do training days once or twice a week where I get up at 4am, in the pool by 5am-6 then track work 6-7 and back to gym for lifting 7-8. Shower, dressed and at my desk by 8:30

I used to get up by 4:30  on Sat mornings to do a long run.. and in the neighborhood there was this car driving around. It freaked me out. Till I realized it was the paper deliverer...

I'm up at 4-4:30 every day.  I would get up as early as 3:30 if necessary to finish the workout.  I have 4 kids, so this is how it has to be for now.  Luckily I am a morning person, so it's no biggie.

Usually up at 4 AM to do SBR as work/family stuff take up most of the day & evening times. Sometimes do a trainer ride at night (post 9 PM) if need be, but usually I'm an early morning guy.

Sunday AM I sleep in until 6:30 or 7, then go for my long run, home in time to make breakfast for everyone. Love the early AM serenity of running by the ocean with the sunrise.

I usually am up at 3:30-4 for swim or run days. I am doing the 3x balanaced plan so I still have to get on the bike afterwork. I dont have the light ability to ride at night. I am trying to talk the wife into letting me get one of those fancy headlights. It is tough juggling training with school, family, work . I havent been doing to bad. I t also stinks going to bed before 9 everynight

The craziest I can claim is getting up at 6:30 to bike into work for 9:00. 4:00am is nuts (for me anyways) I acutally do a lot of my running at night.

Also not a morning person. Though I do the occasional 5 AM run or trainer ride if I know I won't be able to train after work, and I try to hit the road at first light (5:40 to 6:00-ish) for my long brick on Sundays, that's normal by BT standards. My specialty is seamless transition from work to workout. On the days that I coach, five minutes before the end of the school day, I leave my students with an assistant, change into swimsuit and coaching clothes, then head down to the pool.  As soon as the last swimmer has cleared the pool, off come the clothes and I'm in the water--thirty seconds max from coach to athlete. I've been known to come to staff meetings with swimsuit underneath my clothes, and be in the pool within less than a minute after the meeting ends. My pool time's very limited, so I really try to maximize it. I've also been out running around our school fields within five minutes of a meeting. We have a lot of people who work out at our school, so I don't get as many odd looks as I would elsewhere.

Not tri training, but a couple of times I did a morning and evening run on two different continents (AM in China or Vietnam, and PM in the US or Canada) just because I could.
