KSH - 2013-04-03 6:01 AM Really great thoughts Big Appa! I'm certain only Danery's can blow that horn. BUT... we are giving away spoilers in future shows! While her blowing the horn isn't in the books at all... the horn is, but it hasn't happened in the show yet. Although, nothing really HAPPENS with it in the first 5 books. Guess we should start that thread about the books! I hate giving away what is to come to people only watching the shows.

That is what I was saying yesterday a thread about the books including theories on what is to come.

Starting one now! Give a sec.

Already did

Not sure if anyone else has checked this out, but HBO has a really cool site for the show. Which matches up with the book. I have fun looking at the map and clicking on it, reading the information, etc.

The episode last night was ... eh.

I was hoping that they would gloss over a lot of the travel that happens in the book. Don't think they are going to.

They did add some excitement to the episode by adding stuff in there that wasn't in the book... to make it more entertaining. So there was that.

I saw a quote somewhere (EW, i think) that said this was going to be the slowest episode all season.  So I'm good with it.

So it just kind of hit me... here's this book with all these amazing story lines that could be fleshed out by the author, but he's left so many strings hanging from those story lines.

He spent practically a whole book on people traveling from point A to point B and getting caught by X, Y, Z people which was a bit dull... when he could have had the zomibies doing something cool, etc.

Maybe I'm just being picky, but it seems a few of the characters spent the break between seasons eating.

Arya, Sansa, Loras, and Margery all look like they gained a few pounds.  Arya looks almost too old to play that role anymore.

Also, is it just me or is the Hound the 2nd best actor in the cast?  Peter Dinklage being the best, Tywin Lannister being 3rd.

Actually, they have gotten older. We were discussing the face that these books take place in a relatively small span of time, and one book even goes back and tells the stories of the other characters that weren't in the book before, and it is happening at the same time.

What does this mean? The actors are aging but they shouldn't be! If you noticed Bran isn't a kid anymore! He looked pretty old. As did the rest of the actors/actresses who were younger when the series started.

Almost all the kid actors were too old to begin with (but needed to be for obvious reasons).

Rob is supposed to be 15 - Richard Madden is 24-26

Sansa is supposed to be 11 - Sophia Turner is closer (15-17)

Arya is supposed to be 9 - her actor is 11-13

Bran is supposed to be like 6 or 7 - his actor is older than Arya's (12-14)

I can't remember how old Joffery is, but I think he's supposed to be 13 or so.  His actor just turned 20.

Hmm,

1 Tywin Lannister - His first scene dressing the stag while talking to Jaime, his scenes with Arya, the latest telling Tyrion he'll never be given Casterly Rock - the dude has amazing screen presence and is probably the closest match between character in the book and actor.

2 Tryion Lannister - Peter Dinklage is awesome. His expression as he left Tywin's chambers...there's going to be some hell to pay.

3 Balon Greyjoy - Not much screen time, but his scene with Theon about paying the iron price was impressive.

4 Eddard Stark - Hey, he's Boromir, nuff said.

5 Jorah Mormont - One of least like his description in the books and his lines are getting repetitious, but I really like the way he delivers his lines.

6 The Hound - Matches his character well and well played. I remember not being as impressed as I'd expected when his pryophobia manifested during the Battle of Blackwater.

7 Melisadre - Ok, maybe I'm just loving the accent

8 Jaime Lannister - He's more and less despicable than just about everyone thinks.

I was trying to remember where else I'd seen the actor who played Tywin Lannister. He was the villain on last season's Strike Back on Cinemax (Conrad Knox), and he was also the villain in The Last Action Hero (with Schwartzenegger). He was the guy in the white suit who wore the single crazy contact lens.

Good catch on the last action hero. He's much better in this one.

Ok now worst. And again, not character, actor.

My worst are:
1) Danerys Targareyn. Overacting.
2) Baelish. He plays every role the same way. Whether it's mayor of Baltimore or little finger.
3) I can't think of one. Those two are the bottom of a stellar cast.

Danerys is fine to me; not stellar, but decent.

People I don't like:

Joffrey. Not because I hate the character, but because I don't believe him any time he's not hammering the one angry note over and over again.

Sansa. She has her moments, but again it's one note(petulance one season, depression another) without much respite.

Theon. Same idea.

Maybe it's not so much that these actors are terrible as it is that their characters don't have much depth so being mediocre is much more noticeable when the character is relatively uninteresting(to me). As an example the other direction, Jon Snow hasn't had a whole lot of emotional range, but I still enjoy the character because it's well-acted.

I agree on Theon. He's kinda mediocre.

Joffrey and Sansa made me think for a bit. But have you ever met someone who was just trying way too hard to be someone they were not? Joffrey is trying to be this great king but he's a s--t. Likewise, Sansa is trying to be the "lady from the songs" but she's just a brat.
So in that way they fit the roles very well.

True. But she has no range. She's always a conniving beeyotch.

Tywin showed a warmer side with Arya. Tyrion has gone from a drunkard to a leader, to an axe-wielding combat warrior.

Even Hound showed some range going from scary dog to showing genuine concern for Sansa before he left the castle.

Then again, I guess cersei is written that way as a conniving b. she is always moaning in her thoughts about not being with Jaime or not being born a man. So maybe the character is being played accurately.

Same with Sansa.  The way 3SpokeFan described her is exactly how she is in the books.
