I picked-up a Tag Heuer Aquaracer two-tone (gold and stainless) as an early Birthday/Christmas gift.

I managed to stumble across a discontinued model that I prefer over the new one. The jewelers had it on sale to clear inventory. I knew I wouldn't find that deal again, so I jumped on the opportunity. I had already started saving for it, and had figured on getting a lesser model because of the original price tag, so I'm glad I had the opportunity.

And NEW RUNNING SHOES. My old ones are worn-out. I love new running shoes!

That is sweet. I love scoring a closeout when I like it over the new. One day I'm going to have to replace mine.

Reading these and realizing....I very rarely buy things, aside from necessities like food. A lot of locally available consumer goods are from China and poor quality; imported stuff is ridiculously overpriced. I do stock up on tri necessities--electrolyte tabs, replacing worn-out running shoes, when I go to the US or Singapore, but lately my shopping's been downright pathetic. Most of my discretionary spending involves enabling my tri and travel passions (tickets, entry fees, hotels), not buying stuff.

So, not exactly a purchase, but I'll nominate my kitty.  I didn't buy him (he was dumped on me), but I have spend quite a bit of my limited discretionary income over the past year giving him a good start in life. Well worth it. Life gets too serious sometimes and it's good to have someone around who thinks that 4:30 AM is a great time to get up and moving (as long as he's served breakfast) and that everything can be a game and anytime can be playtime!

Bought the wife a BMW 330ci Convertible on Saturday. The convertible part is for her, but the 330 part is a lot of fun for me!

We have an insanely tiny kitchen but with a baby on the way we bought an 18" portable dishwasher - my hubby is in love with this thing. Surprisingly quiet and effective! It takes a while to run but the dishes are being cleared out much more quickly than before!

This is more of a service but also in the vein of getting ready for baby we did Supperworks on the weekend and in 1.5 hours came out with 24 meals prepped and ready to put in the freezer with cooking instructions. They do the chopping and cleaning, we did the assembly so we knows what is in everything.  We haven't eaten any of it but it all sounds awesome! And it should mean we'll be eating well even life is hectic with a newborn.

tech_geezer - 2013-05-11 7:34 PM I bought a Powermatic 6" jointer and a Powermatic 15" planer.  But the thing I bought that really pleases me is an Oneida Dust Deputy.  It is a cyclone separator for my shop vacuum.  It cost like $39 and really works so that the filter of the vacuum does get loaded up.  So cool.

You and my hubby would so get along - he bought one of these and loves it - so much so he bought one for his brother (disclaimer, not sure if its the same brand or not but the same cyclone thingy for sawdust)

Most of our recent spending has been related to getting ready for the baby but I'm planning on getting a cherry tree soon.  Pie!

So we needed a vacuum, and I'm sorry for all you Dyson folks out there... but no way is it worth $600 for a vacuum. And even the old Kirby's for a grand... what ever.

But, we got a Shark Pro... OMG! Best vacuum EVAH! Best $250 I spent in a long time. I just got done doing the whole house. It rocks. Get one.

Next up.... we needed a new bed and I hate sleeping on a crappy one. I have thought about going foam, but never wanted to take the plunge... I finally did. Serta icomfort... LOVE IT!!! HOLY CRAP... the wife and I literally can't get out of bed now. I stay up late, but actually look forward to the time I can get back in it. WOW.

What have you got recently?

We were shopping the other day and my wife mentioned that she needed a new vacuum so I mentioned your recommendation on the Shark Pro.  She said great but when I went online to find I saw a lot of different models.  What model specifically are you referring to?

Thanks.

Forgot to add that we got a Shark a few months ago and it's great.  I love vacuuming up coins and watching them spin around in the canister.

The Shark Rotator Professional Lift Away. The one on the Left.

About the only complaint... and not much of one... is the canister is a little small. But only due to the way it is built and the features are crazy. You can lift off the vacuum from the floor brush and take it where ever you want. Suction is crazy. Attachments out the wazoo. And the brush stop when upright. I could not stand that about regular vacuums that keep spinning when you needed to use the wand.

Maybe there are others with same features... never used a Dyson... but it was $250 at Bed Bath & Beyond, and with 20% off coupon only $200. Great vacuum for $200... oh, and THE MOST quietest vacuum I have ever had. Seriously, very quiet. My dogs are not as freaked out about it.

I seriously can't believe I wrote that much about a vacuum.

Bought a shoe dryer like this in December (actually it was a Christmas present from my cat) and it changed my life. Awesome. Dry shoes in an hour. I mostly used it on cycling shoes and gloves. This is so useful in Vancouver.

Most recent purchase (and use) was a get-away to Vegas, which was very much needed!  And now that I'm working there are a few things on the never-ending list of things that I can't wait for us to have...

1)  vacuum

2)  new mattress

3)  Keurig (or however it's spelled)

4)  tickets to go see Book of Mormon!

5)  new running shoes - I lof new shoes.

I love my Dyson and I think it was worth every penny.  Esp as an allergic person.  That said they only had tiny shark vacuums when I bought mine.  I have had the tiny sharks for the car etc.  I have not really bought anything too exciting lately but I will stand by my Dyson
