I will be in Wisconsin in early July, and would like to get in a race while up there. This one fits my schedule and location but I can't find a lot of info on it. Any BTers out there with first hand knowledge you're willing to share?

Thanks,
Chris

Nice locally run race. I know the race director.

The swim is in the Rock River with the current, time trial type of start. Bike is rolling hills, no big ones. Big hill on the run.

Very small race but very well organized. The swag this year is a Headsweats visor, no shirt.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks, I found the link you posted as well as the two Facebook pages they have for the race. Thought the visor looked pretty cool. I was hoping to find a few race reports but didn't see any listed. I've never done a river swim, but it's got to be better than Lake Ponchartrain. The questions I do have:

1. How cold is the water, I saw pictures of people wearing wetsuits so I'm assuming well below 78 degrees.

2. Compared to Racine 70.3, how is the bike, more hills, less hills or about the same?

3. How "big" of a hill are you talking about on the run? I'm from south Florida, my biggest hill is a 65 foot bridge.

Right now I'm about 90% sold on doing this race, just looking to get a better feel for it. Thanks again for any info.

Chris

The water shouldn't be very cold but it won't be 78 degrees either. Lots of people only wear trisuits, no wetsuit. The swim is with the current so it is fast.

Haven't done Racine so I can't compare but you won't be doing any serious "climbing" on the bike.

The big hill on the run is tough to compare but I would think it would be steeper than a bridge ramp. Doable so I woun't let that stop you.

Like I said, fun local event, small. Very well organized.

Not sure where in Wisconsin you will be, but there is a small tri in Leopolis on the morning of the 4th every year. They have a short "beer belly" race which is a 50 yard swim, 5 mile bike and 2 mile run. Or a "jock" division which is the same 50 yard swim, 12 mile bike and 5 mile run. There is no "official" website, but here is a link to the details I mentioned above http://www.travelwisconsin.com/events/on-road-touring/leopolis-boos...

I've done the beer belly the past 2 years and enjoyed it. This year I plan to do the jock division. Here is a link to the results from last year: http://www.badgerlandstriders.org/DefaultFilePile/RaceResults/12LEO...

I'm sure you'll find it on a map, but Leopolis is roughly mid-way between Green Bay and Wausau, and a little south of highway 29.

PS: Sorry I hijacked the thread.
