Pre-race routine:

Note - overall is female only

Up at 6:00 and out the door by 6:45. Easy drive to Apple Valley - plenty of parking. Ate the standard kale and chia protein smoothie.
Event warmup:

I did a 2 mile warm up on the course. At the end I picked up the pace a few times to feel some speed.

Comments:

I wasn't sure where I would come out on this. Even though I haven't run a sub 7:00 pace race since high school, I knew I could. I kept the pace in check on the way out and pushed it on the way back. I was the first woman in over the age of 19! Perfect weather for a race - 70, sunny and a light breeze.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - it was a very good race!
Post race
Warm down:

I got some water and shared a bagel with Dave. We cheered some people and then did a cool down mile. More walking around, water and bagel while waiting for awards.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not too much - I ran a good race.

Event comments:

This is a well run community race. Lots of drinks at the end and on the course. People of all abilities participate in the 2 and 5 mile races. Not a big fan of starting and finishing on the grass but it's ok.

Have a goal when you get into the water. If your purpose is distance, then set your pace for endurance. If your objective is speed, then incorporate drills.
