Extreme Veteran 1986 Cypress, TX | Subject: RE: Anyone doing Bridgeland Triathlon in August? I did it the first three years (2009-2011). Very, very well run and organized. By only nitpick is it's absurdly expensive for a sprint race. |

Pro 4824 Houston | Subject: RE: Anyone doing Bridgeland Triathlon in August? I've done it every year. I hope to do it this year as well. It is my yard stick and I like comparing my paces over the years. I agree with Bob though it is costly, more than most Olympic distance races. Though it does come with perks - ice sponges on the run, ice baths at the finish, great SWAG, awesome finishers medal and after party with plenty of food. |

Member 7 Houston | Subject: RE: Anyone doing Bridgeland Triathlon in August? Agreed with all of the comments... these guys put on a great race and have been giving better swag each year. Price is pretty steep, but the timing works well for me and I enjoy this race as it was my first a couple years ago. |

Extreme Veteran 387 Houston, TX | Subject: RE: Anyone doing Bridgeland Triathlon in August? Register early when the price was $80 at kickoff or $100 in the beginning. The longer everyone waits the more we pay in costs. Not to mention you get more for your money anyway this year. Hat shirt and free high res race photos. Plus the best medal in Texas and safest course. Gotta register early guys. No reason not to when we have $7 race insurance through active so you can even get your money back if you choose to purchase that. |

It's just not worth it to me unless I were to get in at the kickoff. I need another medal and tshirt like I need a hole in the head. I also know I'm in the minority there. What I want to see are safe, but basic (see stripped down) races where it's all about the race and not the stuff around the race.
That said it's supply and demand. You get the entry fee and sell out. More power to ya. |

Extreme Veteran 387 Houston, TX | Subject: RE: Anyone doing Bridgeland Triathlon in August? You didn't hear it from me but there may be a $20 off coupon code and $7 off insurance code both listed on the Onurmark and Bridgeland FB pages tomorrow around 9 AM. That might make it worth your while ; ) While I get what you're saying... we would be eaten alive if we stripped it down and still charged $70, $80, $90 for registration which is as low as we could go. The majority of the cost is NOT for swag. Being on the outside most athletes have no clue how much it costs to put on a race these days. The smaller races that charge $50, $60, $70 are not up to county and city code and are lucky they have not been shut down (that's changing). We are known for quality and a majority of the cost you are seeing in registration goes towards the race, not free stuff. Next year, if we do lower the cost we may strip it down then offer the shirt, and all other free stuff as purchasable items you can buy on the side if you want them. We are still kicking around the idea, for now, we're going to finish out the year the way we've started it. I appreciate your response. Hopefully I've offered some insight into why we do what we do. |

Extreme Veteran 787 The Woodlands/Magnolia, TX. | Subject: RE: Anyone doing Bridgeland Triathlon in August? one more here to say this is a top-notch race, just like all their races are. i've done it every year too. regarding price: just like everything else in the world...you get what you pay for. the higher prices compared to some other sprints is worth every penny for the better quality all around. this kind of production is on par with WTC events in my opinion. not to mention the competition is awesome...you really want to see how you stack up to the best athletes in the area, do this race. OP: if you're getting back in to racing....this race will get you addicted to the sport again. sorry, off topic quesiton that i'm hoping Aaron sees....what happened to the new Du at the race track this fall? it's not on yalls website anymore? |

I think it was actually wetsuit legal last year but the race was on Sept 30th and that was only after being unseasonably cool and rainy and even then it was right at the limit. No way it's remotely close to 78 degrees on Sept 1st. It will probably be in the mid-80's. |

Certainly possible, snorkels are legal. The reality is we don't know why he is wearing one. Maybe he has fused vertebrae in his neck and he cannot turn his head to breathe. |

Veteran 348 Houston, TX | Subject: RE: Anyone doing Bridgeland Triathlon in August? I am doing Bridgeland.! Everyone universally says that Aaron puts on great races - well organized, safe, etc. I like the point to point swim. As for the cost, the free race photos is very good value. I'm usually have to spend an extra $40 for a decent photo. |
