Total Time = 1h 19m 59s
Overall Rank = 74/133
Age Group = 40-49
Age Group Rank = 6/19
Pre-race routine:

This one was about an hour away. Got up - ROLLED with my PVC and stretched for 20 minutes, had breakfast, got dressed, packed the car and OUT the door!
Event warmup:

Swimming around the lake - no real yardage to speak of.
Swim
  • 7h 16m
  • 400 yards
  • 1h 49m / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt my breathing totally off as if I could start to panic at any minute. But I just tried to keep my head in the game and remember that I can stand at any point LOL.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe try to start further up front - this group was all women and none of them felt like confidant swimmers.
Transition 1
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

No comment. Good transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 39m 24s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.16 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike course was good. I knew I had to leave some in the tank for the run - but I put everything I could into that hill. It's pretty cool to see the pictures of me coming up the hill seated and the dude in the tri bike behind me suffering :)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing!
Transition 2
  • 00m 49s
Comments:

When your one of the first women back and there are no other bikes on the rack it's easy to rack!
Run
  • 31m 32s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

This will always be my nemesis. However, this is the first PAIN FREE run and POST RUN without pain I can remember in a long time. I'm really excited at the prospect of this tendinitis thing being over (with ongoing maintenance).
What would you do differently?:

Maybe now I can train to run!!
Post race
Warm down:

No real warm down. I should have jumped in the lake for the cool water but I was just walking around talking to friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just my lack of training.

Event comments:

Only this - I'm really tired of events that don't stock WOMEN specific jerseys. AND the ones that don't, need to carry extra smalls. I have a collection of event shirts I will never wear. Sounds like a picky thing (and a first world problem) but I paid for that?! Come on!! AND I'm not the smallest woman in the group by a long shot!

Overall: 99/133
Performance: Good
Suit: NO
Course: This swim makes me chuckle. My friend said this will be the perfect tri for someone who wants to go without a wetsuit for the first time - here's why - it's SHALLOW all the way around :) I started swimming in the back of the pack and realized the further out I got, the shallower it was getting so I looked up and everyone stood up again to run. When my hand hit the bottom I did the same. I'm pretty sure I ran most of the first 100 yards.

Congratulations on a pain free run. That's huge. Hopefully things will continue to improve.

My husband has similar problems with race T-shirts, but at the other end of the scale. He's 6'7", so they just don't do big guy shirts. I usually land up getting his T-shirts as slightly larger versions of my own...

I'm doing the 22 week sprint tri program and the 2 mile bike ride it starts with is not very challenging. I see this as a opportunity to train the right way and challenge myself. Any ideas?

This past spring I realized a few of us were heading in the wrong direction physically. We were getting together for poker games and kids’ birthdays, but that was it.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

Should I have time goals for the first sprint? Should I just finish the race at a reasonable pace? I'm not sure how to approach this.
