Hey I was wondering who participated in Lumberman and what you thought of it? Was looking to put this on race calender for next year.

I did the oly in 2009 and 2010, the sprint in 2012.  It's a nice, small, warm lake.  A relatively unremarkable bike course and a run around the lake and partially through town.  Cadillac is a nice "up north" little town and the race has that vibe.  I give it a thumbs up.

Hey Chris,
I've done the Olympic a few years back and the Half Iron this year. The swims were great and well buoyed.
As mentioned the bike is a lonely ride north away from town. Smooth roads but no spectators. If you do the sprint...no hills to speak of. The Olympic course continues past the sprint turn and adds small rollers. The half iron continues past the Olympic turn and includes a steady dose of small and big rolling hills. It was tough this year, but what I needed prepping for later races.
The run is flat and paved. Olympic is a nice loop around Lake Cadillac. Half Iron was mentally tough as you did the lake loop, but then back-tracked nearly half way around before coming back in again.

If you like other race amenities, it is hit or miss. 3D did have Boston Market cater, which was great after the half. I had heard from sprint and Olympic athletes there were sport drinks, etc...but later half-iron finishers (I was just under 6hrs) had warm cola and water to choose from. That left a bad taste in my mouth (figuratively and literally). I guess I was looking for more for folks who did the 70.3

3D is an established company that does put on quality races. In an earlier post I vented negatives. These are my observations as an experienced, budget-conscious racer who now wants the best value for their race fee. If you're serious about Lumberman, sign up just before new years eve. Price structure is not as flexible as some other companies. Cadillac is a beautiful town that is an ideal site to host a triathlon in.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the insights on this race. I have this on my radar for next year too, but like to hear the impressions of others.
Sparty...thanks for the play-by-play on the course.

To be honest I have done a lot of 3D events in the past and really have nothing to complain about. Then again I am a BOP'er so I can't really...I do agree that finding registration forms has been a pain. They set dates for price increases but never have any forms available to submit. One year they told me to use last ears form but I could not even download that. Overall I have been happy with 3d. I think I am going to shoot for Grand rapids in the june because I am tired of procrastinating. I have done sprints and Oly but its time to move toward my goal of a full Ironman.

How do I know if my cleats need to be adjusted? And how do you know in which direction to adjust them? I have been having medial knee pain and edema but my LBS says the cleat placement is fine.

Many people have been asking my opinion of this popular show, so I feel obliged to scream out: It's terrible! It’s horrible! It's abusive! I also feel like throwing my shoe at the TV.

I have pedals with the cage and when I ride 2+ hours my legs feel much more tired then if I took out my husband's bike with clipless pedals. Do clipless pedals truly make the difference?

I started riding this spring with the Carnac shoes on Look pedals (with plenty of float). About five minutes into a ride I get sharp pain on the outer edge of my feet, just behind the pedal.
