Event warmup:

swam 100 yards
Swim
  • 11m 37s
  • 586 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

Time trial start so folks were evenly spaced. set a good steady pace to begin with and passed several people early.
What would you do differently?:

nothing. this was probably my best open water swim in a race. the focus on my pool swims appears to be paying off
Transition 1
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

a little slow getting on socks due to rain
Bike
  • 43m 8s
  • 14 miles
  • 19.47 mile/hr
Comments:

roads were wet so had to take it easy on turns and on a couple of down hill sections. i probably could have gone faster but wanted to save my legs some. in the past i have over-pushed the bike and this has cost me on the run.. this time i made sure i left some in the tank for the run and it seems to have paid off
Transition 2
  • 01m 6s
Run
  • 26m 6s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

This is a PR for a 5K!!!!! so very pleased. i went out at a pace i thought i could maintain for 5K and all of my mile splits were almost identical. Very pleased that i could perform faster than previously and all my half iron training appears to be paying off!
What would you do differently?:

nothing....this was a PR
Post race
Warm down:

stretched; cheered my tri club team mates on to the finish.

Event comments:

I'm doing the 22 week sprint tri program and the 2 mile bike ride it starts with is not very challenging. I see this as a opportunity to train the right way and challenge myself. Any ideas?

This past spring I realized a few of us were heading in the wrong direction physically. We were getting together for poker games and kids’ birthdays, but that was it.

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.

From couch potato to a tri in 8 weeks. It was the most fun I've had in a long time. The race organizers had it down and there were no problems at all. This was the perfect first tri, in my opinion.
