Extreme Veteran 1329 Wausau WI | Subject: Looking for a 100 miler Looking for a flat one. I don't do a lot of trail running, so I don't think that would work for me. I did a 50 mile ultra that was done on roads and that worked good for me. I wouldn't mind trails if they were mostly flat. Any ideas? |

Master 1883 San Antone, Texas | Subject: RE: Looking for a 100 miler Come run Rocky Racoon in Texas in February. Its a nice fairly flat, non technical course. And it'll get you out of that Wisconsin winter. (You'll never go back either!) |

What is the weather like in Kansas in March? We are still having winter in Wisconsin. Are you willing to travel? Normally it's "mild". A couple days before it was 40-50. The day of the race, a blizzard blew in. BLIZZARD. So, pretty awful. I think it's pretty rare though, as it was the end of March. Check out the page info. Rocky Raccoon is a great race. However it's a 'real' trail and not completely flat. No big climbs, or real hills either, but it's definitely more of a "real" trail race. It is a great beginner race though. |

Veteran 416 | Subject: RE: Looking for a 100 miler Also in Kansas with more dependable weather is the Heartland 100. All gravel roads, but some hills. (I ran it in 2011 & 2012.) No worries about trail navigation skills. |

Was looking at this one, but it was more of a trail run than I was looking for. Maybe I will try the 50K and see how that goes. |

Elite 3656 West Allis, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Looking for a 100 miler what do you have against nature? embrace the outdoors, embrace the trails!!! MOST of the course is on wide ski paths rather than single track, but yes, there is some good single track. |

1439 | Subject: RE: Looking for a 100 miler There is the Beast Of Burden in Lockport, NY. They have a winter and a summer 100 it is extremely flat not technical at all. the surface is very fine crushed limestone and runs next to the Erie canal. I did the winter 50 and the summer 100 there this year. It is 12.5 out and back with an aide staion in the middle so you are never more than about 7 miles from and aide station. The start/finish line and turn around point are aide staions too. The volunteers and staff are great there as well. The winter one is in January and the summer is in August. You could always go down to Florida and do the Sky Dive utlra on the 1st of February, is is flat other than the 13,000 elevation loss in the first two miles as you jump out of the plane. |

Ouch! I love a loop course, but I think I'd have a hard time with that. I did like the 50mi out-and-back in KS, but it was 25mi! |

I think I'd enjoy the 2mi loops! Too bad the Skydive one is the same day as Rocky Raccoon. |

Looks like I am going to have to find a way to work some trail running in if I want to do a 100. Although the I would love to do the 100 in KS. |

If you're not ready for 100, then do the 50 this March, and see if you'd want to do 100 on it. If you think mentally you'd be fine with an out-and-back without change in terrain, then it'd be perfect. The crushed path was really nice. |

However, I didn't like that it's paved nor did I have any idea how I'd count my loops, I can't seem to count to 5 when running How about 2015 for the skydive ultra - we should both be healed up by then! |
