Seemed to me that triathlon should have always been more in the nature of a duel than a competition for the masses. And I don't get the sanctioned vs non sanctioned aspect but I don't understand why you wouldn't open it up to any old joe. Call it the Livestrong / Macca challenge, proceeds go to Lance's legal fees.....

apologies if this has been discussed and dissed at length already.

I can't stand either of these guys, but this would be an interesting race and I would follow it for sure.

I would watch it. Hell I would even pay a couple bucks (maybe 3 or 5 dollars) to watch it on a PPV. All things aside I think it would be good for the sport in some senses. I don't believe the lifetime ban makes sense but that is a whole other Pandora's box there.

It would be cool to watch the two of them race. Depending on the distance I think Lance would have the edge on both the swim and of course the bike(heck the guy is a really good swimmer). Just depends if he got enough lead to maintain the run long enough.

i just spent a week with Macca - he's serious about this. There is a lot of history between him and LA. He's real angry and he can only race angry....this will happen.

Zero interest; the focus should be on getting/keeping dopers out of the sport not trying to cash in on their notoriety.

I am guessing it can't be sanctioned because LA has been banned. I really don't understand the fascination with LA any longer. I have read his books, collected TdF DVDs, etc. He doped, got caught, came clean.... Let's move on and let him try to figure out what is next for hime in his life. I am sure his life is meant to be more than some side show in either triathlon or cycling.  Not sure what MACCA is thinking here. Does he need the publicity? I wouldn't watch it or care about the results.

Even if LA races clean and wins, people are going to think he doped. He has a permanent stain for the rest of his life and death.

It is two athletes who are no longer the center of attention trying to get some publicity. I'd rather see a real race than a circus act.

Upon further reflection I would be far more interested in a reality TV show featuring these two. Only they don't compete in triathlon. They could compete in all sorts of things, long track speed skating, shot put, mud wrestling, boxing, mma, luge, hot dog eating, cubing (google it). I would find that highly entertaining.

I'd watch such a contest, even if one on one. This day & age, no telling who's doping and who's not (in any sport) so I'll shelve the whole "he probably won because..." thing and just watch the competition. There will come a day when Lance, Macca and the like will be judged by their maker, and that's not I or any one of us. On the one hand it's allowing a known "doper" to compete at a professional level which can be considered bad/wrong but on the other hand it gives opportunity for a known "clean" athlete to show he's top dawg....

I say invite Rinny and see if they can beat her run split!

Wouldn't be interested in the slightest.

LA is a nobody who doesn't deserve a seconds air time.

I'd watch that too. Let's have them do gymnastics too. That might be fun to watch.

Mecca would get killed on the bike then give up 10 miles into the marathon.

I would watch! and pay $$ coverage

If there's street racing why not on bikes. Seems a whole lot safer to me.

I agree with you in principle, Shane, but I would be interested in watching if all proceeds went to a third party charity or other organization to either educate about the dangers of doping or fight it in some other way.  If they are profiting individually, then I wouldn't want to support it.
